I saw a post earlier that has me concerned. Are there many studios at HH? We had hoped to make a tradition of booking a studio for 5 nights at HH every summer (ANY 5 consecutive weekday nights). We are SSR owners, so we have to use the 7 month window. I had planned to call with complete flexibility telling them, give me any 5 weeknights you have in a row. Am I crazy, or should I do this a better way? Are there really very few studios at HH?

We were just there and I can tell you that there are very few studios. Most buildings consist of four 2 brs and some also have a 3 br. 1 brs and studios are only located by reception so very few. I understand that it is hard to get a 2 br in the summer let alone a studio. I would suggest that if you want to go to HHI each summer then you need to own there. Try calling MS now for this summer and see what they have. Maybe a HHI owner can tell you which month is your best bet.

I heard there are:

21 studios (all lockoff)
21 1 bedroom units (all lockoff)
5 Grand Villas
76 2 bedrooms

So, the studios are VERY slim. We booked a studio for July exactly at the 7-month mark and we got the last one for mid July. I figured we got lucky to get that. Summer is PEAK season for Hilton Head. Most people that own there bought points just so they could get in for the summer months. It's a summer kind of town I guess! Although we have heard that April and May and September and October are great months to go also.

It is very difficult to get anything in summer at hhi at 7months. We luckily got 3 nights in July 2 years ago and then purchased an add-on there so we could have the 11 month window for those points. We could only get a 2 bedroom, but used the extra points..we just love this resort!

What about during April or May? Spring Break time? How is the availability then and is it too cold? Thanks again!

I called at the 7-month mark and got a studio for the end of May/first of June! If a summer stay is what you want, I would advise you to try because you never know! Also, you can wait-list! People do change their plans. Good luck!

Just remember that there's a big golf tournament on the island in April (Heritage Classic?) and the resort told us they get booked solid for that time.

I've been told that the month of April is pretty much sold out most of the time, between Spring breaks and the golf tournament. We just checked out of the resort yesterday and it was at 100% capacity.

But May is usually a slow time for them -- up till Memorial Day and then it's jammed the whole summer long. :sunny:

We booked a Studio and a 2BR at the 7 month window for late September without any problem at all. I am sure that the summer months would be a little trickier though!

September is hurricane season...but I would think Hilton Head would be great weather wise all the way up until mid November...depending on where you come from. April is good weather also but not a good time of year to swim.

We were fortunate to book a HHI 1BR for this summer's trip.
We check in on Father's Day for 4 nights. :bounce:

I called at the first 7mo. day-by-day reservation point ( I think it was a Thursday or Friday ), and after talking with MS we found out that all studios were gone. MS did state that if I called Monday, there'd be a pretty good chance of booking a 1BR for all 4 nights. That's what happened and we are very much looking forward to hitting the beach :sunny:

At the 7 month window I booked for this 4th of July...my choices were either VB or HH (1BR prefered). I found availability at VB and took it but also had MS check on HH, the 1BR were gone and studios were in short supply.

Also at the 7 month window I booked HH studio for the 3rd week in October and was told there was a lot of availability.

My experience tells me that spring break, summer and the holidays are extremely tough at HH without the 11 month booking window...most other times it is amatter of getting on the phone at the 7 month time frame to book

We also own at SSR, and I called HHI at exactly the 7 months mark, day-by-day. And we were lucky enough to get 2 studios for the 4 nights we wanted at the end of June. I was actually surprised I was able to do it after reading about the difficulty of it here on the boards. But, it CAN be done. Just make sure it is on your exact 7 month mark, day-by-day, and you call exactly as MS opens. Good Luck!

I too own at HHI, and I would say the studios the hardest to get.

Your best bet is to go for May 20-JUne 10 or so, the EARLY summer might be your only bet at this point. You can also rent out Fri, Sat nite as we just did for this summer.

Price of a studio in JUly=295 Dollars, with a DVC discount, it was $206/night, and so we are staying 7 nights (5 using pts) for $406+ tax! NOT BAD, try to find that in HHI in summer.

Even the Holiday Inn which we called was $159/nt!! Not even a studio! So, you might want to go that option.

Otherwise, all year is more open than the summer. June 10-Aug 31 or so is the hardest time to get HHI, JMHO....

HTH!

The post you are refering to probably was mine. We joined DVC last October (SSR), and had planned on spending time at HH as our first vacation. I knew about the 7 month window, though I didn't expect it to be THAT difficult. When my wife and I finally worked out some dates (just recently) that we both could go to HH, I called DVC reservations and was stunned to find out that there was NO availability from mid-May, thru Jun-Jul-Aug to beg-Sept for Thurs-Sun for a studio. There was some 1-bedroom, and some 2-bedroom openings, but very few during these months (nothing more than a day or two, and on Sat/Sun). Well, live and learn...next time I'll be sure to be ready at my 7 month window (at least for HH). Anyway, we're on a waiting list for 4 nights (Sun-Thurs) for the month of June and July.
