HH for EAster

We will be going to HH for the first time this Easter. We hope to fly in from the NY area. Is it better to fly into Savannah and drive to HH or spend a little more money and fly via Altanta and then take another plane directly into HHI? In either case, we will need to rent a car. Any ideas? Thanks

The drive from Savannah is not too bad -- less than an hour unless you get stuck in very busy traffic. I would guess that you would probably have a chance for better airfare into Savannah than going through Atlanta and connecting to Hilton Head. (Not to mention that the Atlanta airport can sometimes be a royal pain! )

If the Savannah airfares are too high, you can also look at Charleston or Columbia, SC, or Jacksonville, FL. They're all just a few hours away from Hilton Head, but all-in-all, would probably be quicker than connecting in Atlanta!

Not sure where your originating flight is from, but most (nearly all) of the flights directly into HH are on USAir and they tend to connect through Charlotte. You may want to check it out too. But be forewarned, all the flights onto the island are the small planes.

Otherwise I would just fly into SAV in your shoes; most people want a rental car anyway to get around (although there is a shuttle you can take).
