I see on TTS list there are many HH points for sale at $65/pt..... those points work the same as the other DVC points right? i.e. could I buy 200 HH points at $65/each - but use them at AKV, for example. right??? Just thinking it might be a good buy for an add-on......

At the 7 month mark, points are points for making a reservation so if you do not plan more than 7 months out then it may be a good deal. I have, however, noticed that either HHI or VB (do not remember which, sorry!) have significantly higher annual maintenance fees so you should be sure to factor that into your calculations.

However, if you want/need to book more in advance, then you would be limited to only booking your home resort. And since your home resort would not be on-property, if you want to got to WDW you would be out of luck. When would this matter? Mainly at traditional peak times like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter/Spring Break. But you may also find yourself out of luck at DVC peak times like September, early December, and most of January and February.

So if you do not plan more than 7 months out, if you do not plan to travel at these peak times, and the overall cost is appealing then go for it!

Take a look at the maintenance fees for HH, compared to the on-site resorts. The upfront cost may be lower for HH, but over the life of the contract, you'll pay much more than you would for an on-site resort.

The 11-month window is becoming increasingly important, as the pool of DVC members continue to grow. If you want to stay at HH, then HH points can be a great value. If you want to stay at WDW, unless you travel primarily in the summer or September, you're going to have limited options every time you try to get a reservation.

Unless, as Blahnde said, you can't plan more than 7 months in advance due to job or other constraints. If you wouldn't be booking at 11 months anyway, and you don't mind the higher cost of the maintenance fees, HH points would be fine.

I agree with the above posts:

1) MF fees will catch the price difference over the years
2) points are points once the 7 month window is open.

While points are points at 7 months out, I would never buy HH points unless I intended to use the at HH at least part of the time. As noted, the fees are an issue and it is my expectation they will rival VB in a few years. Also, you give up the ability to book something at 11 months out at WDW. Given you might save at most about $10 a point or $2K on 200 points, I don't think it's worth it unless you'll use them at HH during the summer or some other busier time of year there.

(and if Hanna comes ashore here.... your expectation could come true faster then you thought!)

Beware; settlement costs at HH are significantly more expensive also due to SC law, so figure that into your calculations unless you can get the seller to pay settlement
