Or maybe it a new wig or something. She looks different. I don't watch the show but caught a few minutes today and saw her. Something has changed....

Just read in the paper yesterday that she had gastric bypass surgery......last summer, I believe it was.

There was a little blurb in yesterday's paper about her having bypass surgery. She'll be spilling all on The View probably next month (isn't Feb. a sweeps month?)

She actually had the surgery!! WOW!!! I knew she was thinner!!!1

The paper reported that she had the surgery but she's not commenting.

For the story in the paper her doctors told her she had to lose weight or her weight was going to kill her so she had the surgery. She's not commenting on any of this.

good for her
I wish her all the best
she always seemed like such a happy person thin or not

Sorry, I've never liked her, she was always so overweight and really shunned exercise, etc. Gastic Bypass is a cop out and I hope they don't glorify it on the show. She should hang her head in shame if that's what she did, not advertise it.

Right so no one can confirm that she really did have the surgery. I don't think she did - she was always so anti-surgery before and it's only been in the last month that she really appears to have lost weight - not since the summer. If she had it in the summer she'd be a lot thinner now (Like Randy Jackson of American Idol who had his surgery in the summer). I think Star is in love and has finally found a program that is working for her. At least I hope that's it.

I saw the View today as well, and I saw that same blurb in the paper yesterday. She did look a bit thinner. I think gastric bypass is okay if you truly have tried everything. A few years ago, my mom's doctor talked with her about gastic bypass (she is 5'3" and was about 250). Instead, she and my Dad, who was also overweight, made the committment together to go to Weight Watchers. In one year my dad lost close to 75 pounds and Mom lost 55- neither one of them had to take their blood pressure meds anymore, my dad was able to stop taking his diabetes medicine as well. They have kept the majority of the weight off too....I think doing it together helped.

BTW, I LOVED seeing Andrew Dan Jumbo on the View today- they had him and Leslie Segreti from While You Were Out on today and they redid Elizabeth's dressing room.

pnelson I don't see gastric bypass as a cop out
I think you truly have to have tried all other means to lose weight before you will go the surgical route.
1 in 200 people do not survive the surgery and countless others have very serious complications.
A little more compassion would be in order I think.
Unless you've walked a day in someone else's shoes don't be so quick to judge

Star said a while ago that "yes" she was losing weight but
that it was no one's business and she was not going to
talk about it on TV. She said it was private. I agree.
Otherwise, people think it's ok to attack you because they
lack boundaries.

I judge her because she has put herself in the public eye and talked about "hating" exercise, so I think that she has embraced a very unhealthy lifestyle. They have had exercise consultants on the show and she has made it a point to admit that she didn't want any part of, so I don't think she has tried "everything". I think doing it the WW way is very hard and takes a lot of honest, dedicated effort that Star Jones didn't seem to want to commit to. By the way, I'm too tired too walk in her shoes. My alarm goes off at 3:45 a.m. every morning so I have time to fit in a 4 mile run before work, taking my kids to school, going to school myself, etc. and then coming home and cooking a healthy dinner for my family. I suppose I could sleep in and then grab McDonald's on the way home, but I "choose" not to. I don't ask for compassion for my lifestyle.

I totally agree. I think if she does come out and decide to say, "I did this because I couldn't loose the weight myself or through a diet," I will honestly want to turn against all the women on that show who will let her sit there and say that on National Television!

Now if she decides to be smart about it and keep her mouth shut OR actually tell the truth to why she did it, that is another thing in itself. So only time will tell and we shall see! But I'm with you, I don't buy for one minute where her motivation was IF she did decide to undergo the surgery. She did it for a quick fix to her weight issue, and said goodbye to dealing with it the hard way!

For all of you who are being so judgemental, have you thought about the possibility that Starr has tried to lose weight and exercise? She makes it very clear that she wants that part of her life to be private. I know that I wouldn't want to exercise in front of millions of people. She also puts herself out there as a self appointed spokeperson for self acceptance and self esteem. However, just because she doesn't want any part of on air diet schemes doesn't mean that she hasn't tried to lose weight privately. Until you've had a weight problem/eating disorder, you don't know what it's like to be in her shoes.

I don't understand why folks are putting her down for having the surgery when NO ONE KNOWS whether she did or not. Al Roker was off the Today show for a month when he had his surgery. Star has not had that kind of time off since she has started losing weight. You are judging her on rumors that's all.

Yes, judging based on rumors, and . . .

I'm not sure that the pain of that surgery, the strong possibility of side effects, the 1 out of 200 death rate, having to eat next to nothing the rest of your life, the "dumping" the nausea, the vomiting, etc, really qualifies as taking an "easy" way out.

This is one of the main reasons I like Star Jones.

I was going to say the same thing! We had a very overweight local newscaster a few years back that was doing a very public weightloss thing. I ran into him at Baskin & Robins several months into it. I felt sorry for him. For all we know it could have been a carefully planned treat that he'd incorporated into his plan - yet I'm sure everyone in the place (me included) was judging his choice.

If I were famous I'd try to keep my weight issues private and only discuss them after a great deal of success. I would also never exercise publicly - THAT would hurt my self esteem and do me no good!
