(1010 WINS) (BLOOMSBURY, N.J.) Another Norway spruce from New Jersey will be this year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
Workers cut the 76-foot, seven-ton behemoth Tuesday morning in Mary and Carmine Rizzo's front yard in this small Hunterdon County town, about 11/2 hours west of New York City.
For the first time, the center's tree was not located by a helicopter hovering over wooded Northeast locales. The couple pitched their tree with pictures in April.
"I guess this is our 15 minutes of fame," said Paul Rizzo, 28, the couple's eldest child. "We'll take it with a grain of salt."
Last year, an 81-foot Norway Spruce from Wayne became famous on the Rockefeller Center stage.
This year's tree was to be erected Wednesday, adorned with 30,000 lights and lighted during a Dec. 4 ceremony.
Rizzo said the family plans to watch the ceremony together.
Rockefeller Center began its Christmas tradition in the 1930s, when the center was being built. The largest tree erected there was a 100-foot Norway spruce. The smallest was a 50-foot pine.
