Noone knows. It happened a couple weeks ago and the smell went from the Village all the way up to Harlem and noone knew what it was. Maybe this time they'll figure it out.

Maybe it's some kind of publicity stunt, like for a new bakery or some kind of 'artist'.

If it was for publicity, then the source of the smell wouldn't be such a mystery! The whole thing is weird. The last time it happened, people on the other side of the river in New Jersey could smell it.

Hope it's nothing more than what it seems (I like the smell of pancakes and syrup).

You know what? We smelled it at bitburg germany. It was the HOPS used at the brewery. Do you all have a beer brewery close by? Is that a possibility?

De-icing fluid on airplanes smells like maple syrup... maybe the NY area airports are stocking up for the winter ahead!

I wonder if it will smell that way on Monday when I land. Coming to the Big Apple for the CMAs.

There are trees in central California that smell like that! I think it's this time of year they have a misty sap that comes out of them that smells like maple syrup. After work my car would be covered in it. I thought it was the Modesto Ash trees, Are there ash trees in your area?
