Hey NYC folks! Are you worried about a possible transit strike?

Let's hope it doesn't happen! Have you made plans? Working from home? Walking?

I'll be able to get to work--I ride the LIRR and work on 8th Avenue, so I don't use the subways. But going home will be a different story--because some people will be using the LIRR to get to Queens. The LIRR will run, but it will be crowded.

I think they will have a last minute deal - hopefully they learned from baseball!

Ill probably work from home - either that or drive to Forest Hills or Woodside and take the LIRR - but hopefully not!

They are calling for snow tomorrow night too - right? That will make it more fun.

Yes, they are predicating snow. It'll be a blast.

I hope for a last minute deal too. We have to come in on Friday. (I work for a publishing company, and we're closing a book--that's our deadline. We miss it, no book.) And working from home isn't an option.

I am taking off on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully it will be settled by then - otherwise I will take the LIRR from Woodside - although I doubt there will be any room for me!

Only benefit of Woodside is after I get off of the LIRR - there are very nice pubs there for the post work drink = )

hi all,
i drive to and from work,so i'm not to worried.however the FDNY is worried about reponse time's going thru the roof on account of traffic jams.well all have to wait and see.

I'm hoping for all of you that they can reach an agreement and avert a strike. I remember working in the city during the last transit strike in 1980. I had just started working for a major advertising agency in HR and my very first job was to organize limo routes to insure that support staff from Brooklyn and Queens made it in to work! When the strike ended, we actually had secretaries, receptionists and mail room workers who were sorry to see it end!

Hopefully you guys won't have to deal with it.

I wasn't working when that strike happened. But when the LIRR had a strike in 1987, I was one of 3 in my department that lived on LI. The company basically said to us, well get yourselves to work! and on time! Luckily, I have an aunt who lives in Manhattan and I stayed with her for the 2 weeks.

I really think they are going to leave everyone hanging until 12:01 AM Friday.....and then not strike.

I hope they work out a deal - dh takes the LIRR into penn, and has to take the subway to work, (works at the police academy on 20th?? St.) Anyway, he just sprained his ankle a couple of weeks ago and really isn't supposed to walk for long distances, so I really hope there isn't a strike otherwise he's going to have a loooong cold walk!

I remember the 1980 strike also. Was working at Citibank and they had a private bus pick us up here in Bklyn, then take us to Wall Street. It took so long to get to the offices they had set up for us. We got in about 10 or 11, was supposed to start at 8. They said they wanted us in no matter what. So we went, and after the strike was over they treated everyone who went in to a huge party at Roseland. My kids got notices today in school that they don't have to go in til 10 am if there is a strike.

Well, it is now 8 AM. The subways are running, there is a partial strike (against some private bus lines in Queens), and last I heard they are still talking.

It's a rainy day here, too. At least it's not freezing cold.

YEs - of course - people always forget about those people in queens - LOL - I am working from home - ive been sick all week and now the private lines can walk off at any point - I am not chancing it - I can be just as affective from home and ill log on to the network on time = )

Im going to Miami this weekend and I dont want to be stuck in the city!

The partial strike happened today. Now we have to see what will happen tonight at midnight.

Yea - I drove into work today because the queens busses are out! How are the talks going? I was out of town this weekend and did not really follow it!

I didn't really follow it either. I worked very late Friday, and spent the weekend running around.

I expect them to resolve it and to be able to get in tomorrow but we shall see!

I got some Xmas shopping to do so a day home would be nice!! = )
