My good friend and I have a tradition of baking on Good Friday. I used to make ricotta pies, cookies, etc. in addition to the traditional meat pies. Since we've been going out for brunch with my brother and his family for the last 5 years, I know longer make all the desserts, but I do still make the meat pie and what I call macaroni pie. It's a lot of work, but I really enjoy it. I have my mom's old recipe that we used to make together:( I really miss her at this time of year.

We can never taste it until today as we don't eat meat on Good Friday, so I just had some. Yum! Anybody else make these?

I never heard of it, what's in it? Is it like a minced meat pie that is served at Chirstmas time? :)

My aunt used to make that Pizza Gain(sp?) every Easter until she passed away a couple years ago. It was so rich you could only have a tiny piece but it was so good. Im missing it today.

I made some macaroni salad this morning. Now I have meatballs & sauce simmering on the stove. Once the sauce is ready to go, I have to make lasagna.

I'm not Italian, but I'm married to one!

I'll make Ricotta Pies later on tonight for tomorrow.

Italian .... am I baking? Of course! ;) Even if I'm half Italian my job in the family is making the dessert.

I have a guava cheesecake (something non-traditional) in the oven right now and will be making rice pie (traditional) and then chocolate raspberry puff pastry bundles (must have chocolate).

Easter Bread, Easter Bread and more Easter Bread........

Yes Easter Bread and Ricotta Pie and shortbread cookies. I don't like any of them, so I make them for everyone else.
Now if I made a chocolate cake I would eat it, so I don't:D
We never eat meat during lent, until Easter Day.

Enjoy your Brunch

Blech, Ricotta Pie, I could never stomach that as a child.

My grandmother makes a wonderful cheese bread called Crescia al formaggio. Yum. Won't be seeing my Granny tomorrow, unfortunately, I'll miss that bread. She dumped us all for Easter and ran off with her boyfriend to Miami until the middle of May.

As for me, I'm not baking. Small gathering at my house, and my sister is bringing the dessert. And knowing my sister, I'm gathering it will be store bought. :teeth:

I am, unfortunately, a "defective Italian" as my DH lovingly calls me  ...I don't bake. My 80 year old mom made some pies tho, and is bringing them tomorrow.

Timefor me.........I'm not Italian but love Italian food! If you have time someday perhaps you'd be willing to share your recipes?
