If you are skeevy about 'female' discussions please don't read any further. ;)

My trip is scheduled for the last week in September and now that it's getting closer I am realizing that 'my little friend' is going to come and visit me while we are there. I usually get pretty sick during this time of the month. I have thrown up in the past from it and get very severe pains. Midol helps slightly and not drinking caffeine helps, but if it's going to be hot down there I am going to be miserable walking around so much in the heat. We have the flexibility to change our week to a week sooner and there are actually some cheaper flight deals the week before. So if you were me, would you change the week? Do you think I am absolutely crazy for even considering it over something so silly? We have been saving for almost a year and I just want to have the best time possible. We haven't paid our final amount yet (not until August 11) so if there is availability, am I able to change weeks?

I would change if I were you. ::yes:: I would never go during that time of the month, especially if you get that sick. It is Disney and you want to have as much fun a possibale.

I would change it. Why be miserable on your vacation? You can be miserable at home for free!!

If it were me, I would talk to my GYN about changing my BCP around so that we could rearrange my period that month... if you're not on BCP, then yes, I would def rearrange my dates. It's not a vacation if you're sick and cramping.

How long does it affect you? The whole time or just a day? If it is just a day I would not postpone.
Have you tried Advil/Motrin? My doc has me taking it a day or two before Aunt Flo is due to minimize the symptoms. Or talk to your doc and get a scrip for birth control pills and start them the week before.

I would definitely change my week! Not only will it be a much more pleasent trip, then you won't have to worry about it. Done. Over. I wouldn't hesitate.

I can have some pretty severe (but not quite to the point of being sick) trouble like that, and yes, I do plan vacations around it... and will continue to do so.

I will highly recommend talking to your OB/GYN though. THey have some great scripts out there for pain and even going on something like the pill used to help me. Also, using the pill you can try to move your period around a little.

Good luck :)

If I had the flexibility I would change as well. Some months it is only 2 days of sickness and pain and others the entire week. Without the predictability and knowing how horrible I feel and sick I can get makes this a no brainer for me!

I'm not on BCP. My doctor also suggested taking the midol or advil the day or two before to eliminate the pain from ever starting, it's just that sometimes it creeps up on me ;) The strong pain is usually the first 2 days and then it's just discomfort (you girls know.) I just don't even want to mess with it while I'm there, you know. I want to be able to swim and run around and not feel lethargic or have to be on a restroom schedule. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to suggest it to DBF when he gets home from work. I think I can entice him with the cheaper airfare part ;) Even though he does have A LOT of sympathy for my pain when it happens.

If your miserable at that time at home and surely will be miserable at that time away from home then yes I would def plan to go earlier and if the airfare is cheaper then it seems to work out pretty good with you changing your vacation time.

Hmm, my sister tried that for her Disneymoon a few years ago - didn't work :confused3 She asked about it 5 months ahead of time and her GYN told her that was good because most women wait until a month before and that's too late. Well, she did exactly what he told her to and she still got it  . As for rearranging your dates, that depends on how lucky you feel. I should have had mine the week before I went to Disney last year, and when I didn't get it, I was convinced I'd have it while I was there. Never got it until the week after, I skipped for a month. I never skip, I'm always exactly every 28 days. Guess it was all the :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc excitement I had about going to WDW ::yes:: :confused3

I'd reschedule, especially with the lower airfare as an incentive.

Yeah, I'd change it if it was easily workable. I have horrible monthly's too and end up in bed for 2-3 days.:( Reminds me I was going to call a new gyn today, I'll do it tomorrow! I hope it works for you!

If you can change it, I would go the week after. I always feel better after flo leaves.

I am not on BCP any more, but my doc will work with me. Once we were leaving in 5 days, he gave me the pills and told me to take 3 a day until they were gone. After they were gone, it showed up 3 days later. It worked, although, all that did was prolong the pms bloat....worth it not to deal with flo, but a pain, anyway.

So, even though mine are no longer a problem, (thanks to a wonderful procedure!) I still plan vacations around that.

On one vacation I was going on my period was due...my ob/gyn just told me to continue taking birth control pills for the extra week to hold it off...worked like a charm and I didn't ruin my vacation!

Go at a different time, there's no reason to go on vacation miserable. If your side effects from that time of month are that severe for you maybe you could consider bcp? They help alot, I just recently changed my pill to a low dose (20mg) and I barely notice mine anymore.

Reschedule. I experience the same rotten symptoms you do, and I went to WDW like that one year. It was pretty miserable. We went to Typhoon Lagoon and I spent half the day running to the bathroom to "change". Using internal protection on my very heavy days is almost useless because I have to keep changing it or I just leak right through.

Not the way one wants to spend their vacation.

Seems like a major hassle to change your whole trip. How about talking to your doctor and either changing your Birth Control pill schedule, or going on the pill (if you aren't on it already). Seems much easier!

We don't really have a great deal of 'plans' yet except for our reservation dates for POP. We haven't made PS or flight arrangements and were thinking about maybe driving so nothing had really been finalized yet except for the week for the resort. Just got off the phone with a REALLY nice CM and he said there is quite a bit of availability for the week prior. Since it was supposed to start 3 days into the trip, I figure even if it's a day early for the next 2 times (which it NEVER is) I will still be ok. Still have to talk to the BF, he's not home yet- sports reporter- late night :( So I'll let you know what we decide. Thanks so much for all the advice. BCPs are a touchy subject with me, but that's a long story that I'm sure no one cares to hear ;)
