I was cleaning out some cabinets and came across my ashtrays. I tossed all but this one, just because I it was always my favorite one, and it seemed like such a classic! I liked how you could lift the lid, and the butt went underneath so you weren't looking at/smelling the dead ones. Did YOU throw away ALL your ashtrays??

Nope, I still have two.

One is lead crystal that I use as a saucer for an African Violet.

The other is a little more uhhh, controversal. It is a way cool pipe putter outer. :teeth: It's a three part contraption. The first part is like a sliding board. At the top of the slide sits a ceramic ball. You release the lever and the ball slides down the slide, pops off the slide and supposedly pops into a pipe that is in the third part, a ceramic ashtray. :teeth: I don't think we (me and my friends) were ever able to put out a pipe, but we nearly burnt down our house a bazillion times trying. :teeth: :earseek: :teeth: Smoking embers would go flying everywhere. :teeth: That whole contraption is in the shed somewhere because the memories it brings back are priceless. :rotfl:

I think we might have a few in cabinets some where. I remember when we were first married, me smoking 2 packs a day :scared1: (unfiltered Camels :faint: ) we had ashtrays everywhere, every room, almost every table, bathrooms, kitchen. It's hard to believe I once smoked, in the house.

No. I use mine to keep things like spare change, jewelry and such, contained. But they all have some sort of sentimental value, like one I got from the Playboy Hotel and Casino in AC.

I only had one that had a business name on it, it was from a place called Harry's in Somers Point, NJ. My SIL saw it and freaked, it had LOADS of sentimental value for her. Her Dad used to take them there. I gave it to her, since I couldn't recall ever having been at Harry's! Though I must have been, since I obviously stole the ashtray! She was thrilled and she doesn't even smoke, never did!

The one in the pic I took from the telephone company, back when it was Bell Telephone. We smoked at our desks!!! Hard to believe, isn't it?

I also recall smoking in the SUPERMARKET!!

I thought I was the only strange person that would keep something like that. I used my Grandmothers ashtray that my Grandfather make her out of solid copper. It is about 12lbs. and all mine. I hope this is something I never pass to my child to use as we did.
