Personally I think Jack! should have stayed in the race. I guess his crime was telling the party that there wasn't anything embarassing in his sealed divorce files. But when we disqualify people from public office because of a sex scandal involving wanting to have sex with one's own wife, I've think we've gone too far. (If what was in the file was true, I'd divorce Jack! too, but he's running for Senator, not for my husband.)
Obama got more votes in the 8-way Democratic primary than there were voters in the Republican primary. He's going to win. The problem for the Illinois GOP is that most Illinois voters are moderates. But a moderate Republican can't get the support of his or her own party. I like Obama and will vote for him, but I'd also be happy having someone like Corrine Wood as my Senator.
Too bad they won't let her run.
I think nationally the GOP should keep an eye on what's going on in the Land of Lincoln. I really think their focus on the far-right on social issues will have the same effect nationally as it has had here. It wasn't that long ago that Illinois was a swing state.
