My ds11 showed me a Hexbug that his friend let him borrow. While I am sure that he will only play with it for a very limited time, I thought it might make a good stocking stuffer - except they are like $12.00 for a little tiny bug that vibrates when turned on! Anybody have these bugs in their house? Do the kids play with them? I don't even know if these are from this year, last year, or brand new - will they be hard to find once shopping season starts?:surfweb:

Neighbor's son (2nd grade) had one. Actually he has a few, but just saw him with his most recent one. He plays with them very little that I've seen. He spends more time with Lego's. Seems like it's something that would be easily lost.

We have several. They were THE hot item around here at Easter as they were a perfect size to fit in those platic eggs. We have both the big and the small. They will very easily go under the sofa, refrigerator, stove, etc. but believe it or not we've yet to loose one. They are kind of like those novelty toys that you get at the arcades. Fun for a while then forgotten. The first week or so the kids played with them quite a bit. They'd start one up chase it around the room, watch it go and laugh. Now this lasts for about 5 or 10 minutes then they set them aside for another month, forget about them till they're rummaging through their stuff then they'll pick them up to play with again for a few minutes. Despite the small amount of time they play with them the kids are still so thrilled to have them.

The good thing is they do hold up - they're surprising durable. My youngest son dropped his yesterday, it bounced across the room several times hit the wall and got stuck between the wall and the tool box. He picked it up and it was still whole and kept right on going.

I've certainly paid lots more money for something that has gotten played with less and with less enjoyment. (Can we talk about those crazy stick things that were supposed to make amazing things :headache: and the Moon Sand :sad2:)

We have a bunch of hexbugs, including the vibrating one (two, I think). I believe they mostly were stocking stuffers over the last couple years and I thought the price was in line for that (9.99).

Puppies and babies love them, but they can quickly vibrate away where you can't get them, like under the range . . . :rolleyes1

We gave them as gifts last year (they were not that easy to find). We gave one to a teenager in the family, DH used it as the gift in his work grab-bag, and we put one in each of our children's stockings (they were 6 and 13 last year). I thought it was kind of expensive for a stocking stuffer, but the kids loved them and they still play with them. They were a big hit with the teenager and the adults in the grab bag, too.

The fun of them wore off pretty quickly. They get occassionally play time. My guys are 5 and 7- I won't be adding any more this year.

My ds4 just bought himself ;with the money he has saved for almost a year for Disney that he did not spend; some of these. He got some at TRU last week with the buy 2 get 1 free. Then he decided he wanted to get one of the habitats for them. I think they were rather fun to play and watch. I like the habitats because he can easily build all kinds of different ones. He has lego and duplo legos and really does not play with those a lot. So needless to say he will have some of these under the tree.

My 10 year old son got 2 for his birthday back in August and I havent seen him play with them since. They were entertaining for a little while but he lost interest pretty quick. He is more into Bakugan & Pokemon though anyway.

I got some for my teenagers last year for Christmas so they would have some kind of "toy". They play with the cats with them every so often. The cats love them.

LOL I didn't think of the cats - ours will probably either be fascinated or driven insane by them ;) I got 3 at the B2G1 sale at TRU and I was thinking they were $7 or so.

I just bought 5 glow in the dark hexbugs today to put up for my ds for Christmas.
