Hi Folks,

Can any of you good people help a guy from across the pond?

I am thinking of using Hertz to rent an 8 seat SUV and the hertz site is showing the vehicle as a Ford Expedition or similar I have rented an Expedition before and it was perfect for my group as I could also carry an ECV with no problems. My worry is what other vehicle could they give me if I don't get an Expedition? It seems from the website that the Expedition is a standard SUV but my concern is that the alternative vehicle would be smaller i.e a Durango etc. I need the 8 seats and the space the Expedition offers. Can anyone put my mind at rest?

Many Thanks

I know from experience that "or similar" could very well not be what you expect or need. We had reserved a Suburban or similar, and ended up with a 3 seat Expedition which held enough people but the bags barely made it. I think we had bags on our laps. It was very stressful loading everything up.

We are a family of 7 and didn't want to take that chance anymore, so we've since enrolled in the Hertz GoldMember and National Preferred programs. These were offered through my husband's employment. With this, you are guaranteed the exact model that you reserve, no "or similar". I would be very hesitant to go with another rental car agency without this, considering we need a certain size. If that is an option for you, maybe you could enroll and then reserve the exact car.

Good Luck!

I don't use Hertz anymore because the rates always seem to be higher, it was one thing when my company paid but another when it's out of my pocket...but we rented a Toyota Sienna (8 passenger minivan- that's including the driver) via National Emerald Reserve and it worked out great. It holds a ton of luggage in a huge well in the back and was quite peppy due to the V8 engine...if you book the 8-passenger vehicle through Emerald Reserve it's guaranteed.

Hertz is also off-site from MCO so you'd have to take a shuttle to get to their office. Not a big deal really but after a long flight it's a hassle to keep dragging your luggage around. I wouldn't mind it so much if they gave a huge discount but usually you can get an equal rate at an onsite company (Budget, National, Alamo, Dollar, & Avis) Of course Avis is always ridiculously overpriced so I've never used them! good luck!:goodvibes
