Has anyone done a heritage album? I am going to make one for my dad for his 70th birthday and I am looking for ideas.

I am having people from his past/present send me memories or stories that I will include probably in a pocket type page.

But I am also looking for layout suggestions and any other creative ideas!

Thanks!

Wow, I was just going to ask a similar question...

I am starting an album for my mother's 75th birthday, and I also wondered about ideas for organizing, layouts, titles, etc.

I'd like this to be a fairly simple format. I do have almost five months until her birthday, however I am two years behind on both of my kids' albums thanks to the ridiculous amount of time I have spent on family Disney scrapbooks! So easy shortcuts would be appreciated.

Thanks!:D

I did a Heritage Album for hubby's grandma last year for her 85th bday. I have it posted on my website if you wanna check it out.

Unfortunately I did it before all this cool new "heritage" or "antique" sb'ing stuff came out! When I was doing the album, I had a very hard time finding anything at all that was antique-ish and now I walk through my LSS and it's EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's certainly a good time to do a Heritage Album!

Good luck!

Thank you so much for that link. What a cool sight! I will definitely use it in my mom's album. I wish I had it a few months ago when I was planning my husband's 40th birthday party. Oh well, there's always the 50th!

Your heritage album is beautiful! If you don't mind, I think I will be borrowing (stealing;) ) several of your ideas. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. You are so creative!

Many thanks to both of you! :D

Anyone else with suggestions?

On a scrapbook site I was on last year, one person said they would have friends/family of the person you're doing the book for, write down their favorite memories. For example a trip or a family get together and a funny joke or story. I have the actual pictures that belonged to my grandmother of her father. There is one of him standing in front of a 1912 Model T...or is it a Model A?? WHATEVER.......an old car! ;) I'm hoping when I get to do this album I'll be able to find SOMETHING w/old cars on it. Also I think the paper w/the antique lace is very pretty. I also like the alphabets that are made of the old style keys from a manual typewriter. I think that would be cool to use as a backdrop for your memories page. My great uncle was a writer so when I get to him, I'm planning to use that for his page. I'm hoping one day to do a shadowbox. I have the glasses that my great grand mother wore, my grandmother's thimble she used when she quilted, the patterns she used to make dresses and several arrowheads my great grandfather found on his farm. I also have some pictures of my great uncle (mentioned above) in his WWI uniform. SOMEWHERE at my Mom & Dad's is a picture of my great, great, grandfather on his horse. He was in the 117th Calvery based out of Nashville for the Civil War...I think that's the right branch. Since we're true southerners I thought the quilting items, the arrowheads and Civil War pix would be a nice tie in.

I love the heritage album stuff that CM has. Go to their website and check it out. The stickers are great! I love the colors and they just seem so nostalgic.
