We have only found about 7 families from the DIS going on our West Coast cruise. It is everyone's first cruise so we don't know how to go about making a DIS meet. I think we have all been to Home Depot to get the Mickeys though. Could you please give us your tips for making a cruise meet?
Thanks so much. We will all appreciate it.

Our most successful ones have been at 3 pm up on deck 10 mid-ship.

Why it works:
  • By 3pm just about everyone is on board, had lunch and made their reservations
  • 3pm is a pretty quiet time then so you can hear each other (can't do this easily at sailaway)
  • It gives you a good 1/2 hour to meet and greet before heading back to your cabin and getting ready for the safety drill
  • After meeting at 3pm everyone knows where to get together again for sailaway
  • For those who have kids who want to swim you are right above the Goofy pool
Good luck planning your meet. Sailing with other DIS'ers is the best!

We also met at 3:00 pm the first day, but we met in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3. It was VERY quiet there with plenty of seats. Basically the only ones there were the DIS meet people. The kids came too and they went over to one side and talked.

We stayed about 30 minutes and then went back to our rooms to get ready for the drill.

3:00 on the first day seems to be the best time since everyone has had time to make reservations, have lunch, go to their staterooms, and are basically waiting for the ship's drill at 4:00.

Our DISmeet was held at 3pm on the 'secret deck' on deck 7. (It's not really a secret. Just not many people know of it. LOL!)

The Promenade lounge sounds like a good idea, too though. Just be sure that you DO have a meet. It was a lot of fun, and it's so wonderful to finally meet everyone in person. Not only that, your children might find some instant playmates, and you'll have fun seeing each other at the parties and dining rooms. I can't wait for our DISmeets on the Thanksgiving cruise!

We've done deck 10 each of the last 3 sailings.....always to the side of the terminal by the "portable bar". You can look down at the sailaway party going on and see the CMs on shore wave....

I just would add one thing... have some secondary backup way to meet each other. We missed our meet due to totally unexpected flight delays (yes, we learned our lesson -- next time we will fly in the night before). But we didn't have any way to contact the other DIS families or meet them. That was a big disappointment for me.

We did end up meeting one person who noticed my HOme Depot Mickey pinned to my bag. But it got torn up and fell off after a few days, and I didn't always have it visible as identification.

Maybe have a secondary meet scheduled, select someone as a point of contact to share their room number, wear name tags, or exchange more information in advance.

so you just meet once, and that's it? :flower:

Depends on the group. We had a wonderful group on the 10 day Christmas Cruise.

We had the initial meet at 3 pm on sailaway.

Then got together for sailaway.

We had a group photo shoot.

A wine party.

Brunch.

A scrapbook/craft meet.

Ladies night at the clubs.

Tag.

We did buttons for the group and I did a mini navigator that listed all our events and everyones room number.

We had dining reservations linked for both the early and the late group.

It was wonderful to have friends all over the ship, on the excursions, and just walking through the towns.

I highly recommend getting to know your fellow DISers on the cruise meets thread.
