We went Sunday the 6th through Saturday the 12th. This was our first trip - and we had a fabulous time!

Day 1 (Sunday) - We arrived at Fort Wilderness campground around lunch time. Set up our camper (in the sweltering heat and humidity) and fixed lunch. Thank God our camper has an air conditioner! We toured around the campground, visited the petting zoo, the Trading Post, and did pony rides. We also familiarized ourselves with the transportation system. We then went to Downtown Disney. We ate at Planet Hollywood. Kids meals were $7.95 (not including a drink). We should have split one between our 2 kids. And my husband and I shared an entree and appetizer. It was quick service - but expensive. We then picked up our autograph books and pens and went to Studio M. That was a priceless experience! Our kids (2 and 5) were thrilled to meet Mickey. That was $16.95 well spent! We got back to the campground and went swimming! We were thrilled that the pools stayed open 24 hours!

Day 2 (Monday) - Magic Kingdom by 9:00. Had a wonderful day! We left after the parade and headed back to the campground for a swim! We ate dinner at the camper and went back to MK for Spectromagic and a little shopping for the kids.

Day 3 (Tuesday) - MGM Studios. We had an okay day. Lots of shows and few rides for the kids to do. The highlight of the day was eating lunch at Hollywood and Vine. We got about a 10 minute rain shower during the parade. We had planned to stay and watch Fantasmic. But people were already lining up at 5:30 and the thing didn't even start until 7:00. We were hot and whiney and tired. We headed out at 5:30. And picked up take out pizza at the campground. And then went to the pool!

Day 4 (Wednesday) - Animal Kingdom. We really enjoyed this day. Did almost everything and stayed until close at 5:00. Dinner at the camper and hit the pool!

Day 5 (Thursday) - We had 8:10 reservations at Cinderella's. The boat was running late and we were about 10 minutes late. Since it was an EE day everyone had to go through bag check and show their resort ID. I sent my husband through that line with our bag and I talked a guard into letting me through since I was late for my reservation. I ran all the way pushing 70 lbs worth of kids in our stroller. We made it! And I was soaking wet with sweat by this time! The kids said it was the best ride of the day! Breakfast was wonderful and the characters were great! Then the day went downhill. All the lines were very long. We ended up leaving at 12:30. Road around on the Monorail. And then headed back to the camper for lunch and swimming. Went to Epcot - but didn't get there until about 5:00. My 2 year old fell asleep on the bus ride over. So we walked around the different countries. Ate dinner in Mexico. We had to wait 30 minutes even with a PS. Dinner was good. My husband and I split an entree and had plenty of food! Stayed for Illuminations.

Day 6 (Friday) - Sea World. This was the only time we actually drove anywhere! We had a great time at Sea World! We wore our bathing suits which was a great idea! After lunch we went to a kiddy water play area. The kids had a blast! We stayed until close at 7:00. Then hit McDonalds on the way to the campground and went swimming.

Day 7 (Saturday) - drive home. We left at 11:30. Took us a while to pack up and then shower off. Stopped for lunch, break, and dinner and got home shortly before midnight.

We enjoyed Magic Kingdom, then Sea World, and then Animal Kingdom the best. MGM was kind of a let down and we didn't spend enough time at Epcot. The campground was very nice. I wouldn't have wanted to have done it without air conditioning. The transportation was terrific. Our sit and stand double stroller worked out wonderful and was a life saver.

We spent:

$313 Campground
$569 4 day hopper passes (2 adult, 1 child)
$75 hotel on the way there
$700 Food and spending
$135 Sea World tickets
$100 Gas

Total was $1892. I allotted $100 each day - some days we were under and others over (especially on days we did a character meal). I thought we did really well.

Any questions?!

It does look like you did real well with your budget and sounds like you all had a great trip - thanks for posting!

Tina,
We're also from North Carolina (near Durham) & are driving down in about 2 weeks. Any recommendations in driving down? You said it took you about 12 hours - where was that from? Thanks for your help! :D

I'm not the original poster, but we drive down from N.C. every year. I love to stop over in Savannah, Ga. and spend 1/2 a day in the shops on the waterfront and then have a nice dinner. We leave early the next morning and arrive @WDW by lunchtime. We drive straight through on the way home. It's about 10 hours from Gastonia. It's really an easy drive because we hit Jacksonville on a Sunday going down and very early on a Saturday coming home. Thanks for the trip report!

I live in Hickory - just a little bit further than Gastonia. On the way down we drove to Jacksonville and stopped for the night. That would put us only 2 1/2 hours away - but we had had enough of the van and we picked a hotel with a pool so the kids could play. The next morning (Sunday) we left and it took us over 3 1/2 hours to get to Orlando. We ran into traffic from 4 different accidents. They were scary.

And on the way back we opted to drive straight through and not stop at a hotel. We took our time.

It was a good decision. That way we had all day Sunday at home to rest, unpack and WASH CLOTHES!!!
