Here's an interesting question.

If you were leaving Disney that day what would you do with leftover meal credits?

  • Use them though you might have just eaten.

  • Not use them, not getting the money back anyway.

  • In a CS rest. walk up to register and offer to "pay" for someone's meal.

  • Offer someone your credits for half what it would cost if the family was paying for the meal.

I'd walk into Cosmic Ray's or Peco's Bills and look for a family (someone that looks like they might be on a tight budget) to enjoy the leftover credits. Why let them go to waste?

Just thought it would be interesting to see what people would do. I've read some threads and other sites where people had credits they didn't use.

Either use them, don't use them or share them, but please DON'T sell them at a reduced rate- not only is that really shady, but you could probably get in trouble with the law if Disney found out. It's illegal to resell park tickets, so I doubt selling Dining Plan credits is allowed.

I would use them to pay for someone else's meal, but be prepared for some funny looks.

Before I went this past May I had read a thread on here about 'nice things you could do for strangers at WDW'. I was so impressed and decided I wanted to do some of the things suggested. At Aloha Isle I heard the people behind me trying to decide between the dole whip float and the plain dole whip, saying the float was more expensive so they'd better get the cone. When I ordered my float I bought three more for the people behind me. As I was walking off the little boy said "Why did she do that' and the dad said he didn't know. I just smiled and said because my GD couldn't come with me, but I knew she would want a dole whip float, so decided to buy one for the first kid I saw, along with his family. They were smiling, but looking at me funny as I winked and walked off. At POP Century one morning there was a young couple with bride and groom ears on behind me. I paid for their breakfast and got another strange look. Also at the MK I bought a balloon and started looking around for a kid to give it to. I saw one who looked exhausted and was crying. I asked the parents if they would do me a favor telling them I had bought the balloon, but then realized they weren't allowed at the AKL because of the animals and asked if I could give the balloon to their daughter. The tears immediately stopped, but unfortunately I got caught. As I was in the bus line for POP they were just a few people ahead of me. The little girl saw me and said 'hey lady you're in the wrong line, this line is for POP not AKL'. I laughed and said 'you're right' and got out of line until the bus came and left. The parents again smiled, but gave me a funny look. I'm saying all of this to say that some people are suspicious when others do something nice for them, so if you're giving away free meal credits be prepared for the suspicious looks. Too bad some people can't expect the good things that happen for them and always expect the bad. Spreading a little magic makes the giver feel better than the receiver sometimes. I was traveling solo that trip and really enjoyed surprising people with just a little pixie dust.

Aubriee you sound like an awesome lady.

I'm from New York and there are a lot of suspicious people here. There was several times I held a door for someone and one women actually yelled at me. She said if you are going to hold the door - you will be here all day? I sometimes stop myself from doing nice things for strangers because I'm sick of getting an attituted like I was doing something wrong when all I wanted to do was do something nice.

Use up what I could for snacks home on the plane. If there were leftovers, I'd give them to someone else.

This is an interesting question...I would without a doubt give the credit to someone else & pay for their meal. I think that would be such a "pixie dust" kinda thing to do.

Aubriee, you are too kind! Even if those people looked at you funny, I am sure when they thought about it later your good deed was one of the highlights of their vacation. You truly belong at WDW because you have the right spirit!!

Stemikger, I am from NY too & I totally agree with you. I know NY can get a bad rap sometimes but I have been given the same treatment (as you) here when I hold a door or something "nice" for a complete stranger...but I don't feel that way at Disneyworld!!!

How can you really tell who is on a tight budget though? Sometimes looks can be very deceiving you know?

I would probably just give it to the first family I saw and wish them a good day.

Heh, in our case, I'd add another option: "Stay at WDw until the credits are gone". Which is what we're planning on, essentially. We haven't got any particular plans for our last day nor a specific "getaway time" (though we would like to leave by, say, 6pm at the latest) -- so I'm making some provisional ARs, and we'll use any left over credits as a guide.

(Half the group is leaving in the morning and may not use dining credits before they catch the ME bus)...we'll have th rest of the day to use any of their leftover credits and ours. :-)

If we have no credits left over from our group of 9 (unlikely), we'll leave before lunch and eat on the road. If we have credits, we'll use that as an excuse to spend more time in the parks before we hit the road. Our goal is near/past Savannah on the I-95 by 10pm; we'd be okay if we don't get there 'til midnight if need be.

I've always wanted to be able to pay for someone that I didn't know. It would be such a fun thing to do. Last year, we had extra fastpasses and my DH handed them to a couple that was getting in line to wait for half an hour. They said thank you, but still looked at us funny. Oh well, it made us feel good.

aubriee - you're an inspiration to the rest of us.

Id pick someone and pay for their meal. We did that with our left over snack credits. I picked the people I did because I thought their kids were just about as cute as mine lol :)

Aubriee...you sound like a wonderful person! It is fun to give things away, and my guess is those people have shared their story of your unexpected generousity over and over, but it had to probably sink in first. I think people just don't expect something nice to happen to them. They were probably waiting for the timeshare salesperson to pop out of the woodwork and trap them. But after you went away, and they could relax and enjoy what you'd done, I bet your story has been repeated often.

Because of my job I often have free tickets to events. I've surprised many people who were getting ready to purchase expensive tickets, with freebies. I know the look of suspicion you mean, but I like to imagine their delight when they use their tickets and realize they're for real and no one expected even a thank you.

So, to answer the question of this thread...I vote to give them away.

I have to admit that first I would try to get something to go that we could put in the cooler and have during the drive home, but if I still had credits left after doing that, then I'd most likely just pay for the meal of the first family I saw ordering.

Wow, that is so nice of you! :wizard:

To the OP: I would just give them away to someone for free. :)

There are so many nice things that you can do for others and if you have kids, its an act of kindness that teaches them respect and gratitude... When we are leaving a park for the day, we always swing by one of the busier rides and grab fastpasses... W/ a big family like ours, we end up w/ around 5 passes and as we are walking out of the park we look for a family to give them to... It helps when you want to take everything in and can only use your ticket about once in 3 hours when its later in the day... and yes we have gotten some looks but I think after an hour of being in the park and going to the rides they understand that it came in handy

I agree. We sometimes do this when we've got FastPasses we decide we don't want to use. We look for a family with well behaved children. I'm sure we'd do the same with leftover meal credits.

A little OT, once I had one extra FP. We wre outside Test Track, and there was a girl about 11-12 there with her two older brothers (in the 13-16 range) who were just TORMENTING her. Not sure where the parents were, but had these two been my boys I would have cracked their heads together and taken them home the way they were acting towards their sister. At any rate, I walked up to them all and handed the extra FP to the girl, and then looked the boys in the eyes and told them that SHE was getting the FP because they were ROTTEN!

Day at WDW-------------$150
Gas to get there------------$5
Looks on those boys faces---PRICELESS~

I'd pay for someone's meal if we had anything left.

I actually had people look at me funny and walk away (like I was doing something crazy!) when trying to give a couple of fast passes away at RnR. Ds and I had gotten a couple and when we arrived back realized he was too short to ride :( Finally gave them to a couple but they still looked at me funny. I remember thinking "I wonder if these people know what fastpass is?" Hey, I tried.

It's kinda sad that people don't expect kindness. I'm glad I live where I do. People actually trip over each other here with so many trying to hold doors! Seriously!

I had a heck of a time giving away my holiday passes the year I was on the college program. Disney gave us all sorts of meal discount coupons and three 1 day hopper tickets that expired on X date (pretty much like a one day's worth maingate pass). DH (Dfiance at the time) had a seasonal pass, so we didn't need them. We stood out front of the MK for about 30 minutes trying to give them away. Everybody though we were crazy... finally gave them to a mom and 2 kids who was thrilled since dad was attending a convention and using our tix allowed them to keep the days used on their passes the same.

On Saturday night at my restaurant, there was a table who had 30 meal credits left and were leaving in 3 days. Not sure why they had that many left over. Anyways, they bought dinner for the 3 surronding tables. The check for my table of 3 was $4.80 for a beer after the credits. My table thought it was a joke and wanted to know where the real check was. I had to have another server come over and explain again that his table paid for the meal. They couldn't believe it!

Last year, at the Calgary Stampede, my DW and I went to watch the Stampede Show Band perform on the steps of the Saddledome. We were very tired and asked a young couple if we could sit down at the picnic table they were at. They said sure and then asked us if we enjoyed country music. I'm not a big fan but my DW fell in love with country since our move to Calgary 20 years ago. When she said yes, they asked us if we wanted to attend the George Strait concert. They then gave us two 7th row floor seats worth $70 each. Your poll is an easy one for me, give them to someone - pay it forward!

DD tried to give her Minnie balloon away the morning we left (we couldn't take it on the plane) and three parents would not let their kid take it. The first one she asked spoke no English but who knows why on the others, she was confused and I think a little sad since she was just trying to be nice. I finally went with her and explained to the other mom that we were leaving and it was okay with her, they were thrilled.
