While I was at the elementary school today, a mom came in with two little girls to get her older daughter dismissed early. The secretary asked her, "Do those girls have HIGHLIGHTS?" She just laughed and said that they put up such a stink when her older DD got them (who, by the way, is in the FOURTH grade!) that she let them have them too!

They must be about 4 and 6 maybe. That beautiful, pure, untreated, soft, little-kid hair!

And wouldn't we all KILL for that hair again! You know those gentle natural highlights, soft. Argh! Call me judgemental if you want, but I would never do that for a young male or female.

Come to think of it, I have seen boys with bleached hair! Same thing, I guess!

Don't feel bad, my SIL let my Dneice(4) dye her hair RED, and I mean RED. Plus she cut it where the front is longer than the back. We just recieved her spring school pictures (pre-K) in the mail and freaked. My DD(5) has only had her hair trimed and bangs cut, I think little girls look adorable with long hair, (they'll have strange hair styles soon enough in high school). I let my DH call to yell at her so I could stay out of it.

Why can't we let kids be kids and stop letting them try to grow up so fast? My DD10 has asked for highlights and nails. I told her when she is old enough to get a job and pay for them herself she is more than welcome to.

Highlights when a girl is 9 or 10 is different than 4 or 6, though I first got mine at 14.

My cousin had her hair highlighted at 4, her mother was obsessed with pushing her into modeling.

BTW, At the age of 19 she's had two modeling jobs, both when she was about 4, so we all know how that one turned out.

This post reminds me of poor Jon Bona', Oh brother, I can't spell her name but you all know who I am taking about, why push a young child into teen yrs and farther before their time, it gets her soon enough all on their own

My son (3) had such a pretty color hair last summer. It was a light brown with a few soft (natural) blonde highlights. Well, after the winter, his hair just looked very dull. And I thought to myself, "I wonder if I could put lemon juice or something in his hair to "encourage" it to lighten up again." I would never have done it, but it was just so sad that the pretty highlights were gone. Well, I just got his hair cut pretty short for the summer and it looks better. I think it will lighten up more, as he's in the sun more often. So, while I admit that I have thought how nice it would be to have highlights in his hair, I would NEVER do it, especially from a salon. I think even 10 is too young. Must we indulge our children with EVERYTHING they want. I think 12 or 13 is a more appropriate age.
