Here's a cute way to give gift cards

I'm not the most creative gift wrapper, but I must admit that I came up with something cute this year. We decided to give the nieces and nephews Target gift cards. I found some Christmas-decorated "Chinese food containers" (at Big Lots of all places). Put tissue in the box, the gift card, and a bag of chocolate coins. I tied a tag and ribbon onto the handle. They're adorable little packages!

Anybody else wanna share some good ideas?

I have a weird sense of humor. I have a set of step Gparents we would give GC's to. The best one we did was to get an old ugly brick. We then hot glued seashells, yarn, ribbon and anything we thought would make it look awful, and it did look awful. We taped the GC to the bottom of the brick and then wrapped it in a shoe box. It was so funny to watch her open it and have to thank us for this super ugly doorstop. She was very polite. We did tell her right after that to turn it over and she found the GC. We still laugh at the way she did such a good job pretending to like it.
Don't think I am mean. Everyone in the family knows I have the weird sense of humor and understand I hate to be ordinary and hand someone an envelope with a GC in it. My sister and I are the ones who have a bag of birthday gift wrap that has never been used, but instead it is handed over with the gift. This poor beat up bag of paper has been going back and forth for about 9 years now.

ooh...cute idea - I may use that one! We're clebrating my 14 year-old nephew's & my brother's birthdays on Thanksgiving & they're both getting gift cards. Plus - several are getting gift cards for Christmas. Thanks!

(hehe! this is in response to Missypie's idea!)

That is a great idea....too bad I was at the Christmas Tree Shop and saw those chinese containers there, I would have picked some up to use for the GC.

I just picked some of those containers up at Michael's the other day with the same idea!! I will be giving plenty of GC's this year ~ these will make neat little gift "bags"!!

I used the same idea. I put Bath and Body gift cards in the container along with a Christmas ornament full of bath confetti. I also saw the containers at Big Lots.

Ah, someone else who will admit to shopping at Big Lots! DH and I were commenting that Big Lots had gone too upscale. We yearn for the old days (many 10 years ago) when you never knew WHAT you'd find there. We'd see things like cake mixes with the labels in Arabic, types of cereal that never made it to the store shelves. It was always so fun.

I LOVE the doorstop idea! It'd be fun to do some teenage version of that. Now I've got to think of something that is a really bad immitation of "cool".

You can get videos for $1 at resale shops...less at a garage sale. If the teenager is into the latest technology, tape the gift card to the back of some uncool video (or the video of something they just released on DVD).

Not mean at all! That's awesome! My family is the same way!

We always have to ask ourselves, when we open a 'random' gift - has it been tampered with.

Like the christmas my brother gave my father a box of macaroni and cheese (kraft - he splurged for the name brand at least). My dad smiled, said thanks, and put it aside. (He's probably thinking - wth?)

we continue opening presents...and my brother is just DYING...he's like "dad - look at the box of mac and cheese..."

my dad "it looks fine!"

Just open it!

my brother had been super careful about opening it, shoved in $250 worth of restaurant gift cards, and hot glued the sucker closed. too funny

(all familys are different...we just operate differently!)

I am putting FYE gift cards into empty jewel boxes.

One time I gave my nephew a FYE gift card in a shirt box that I taped odd shaped rocks into and filled with tissue paper. It was heavy, unbalanced and made no sound. Boy was he surprised. :rotfl:

I am definately using the door stop and the food box idea.

This reminded me of what we did to my parents tree on year. They put it up and had no ornaments on it. My 3 year old nephew felt bad for the tree having no ornaments on it. On the way form the grandparents house to the nephew house we asked him if he wanted to make grandma some ornaments. Of course he did. So we stopped and got macaroni (many shapes), construction paper and glue. He made enought large ornaments to fill the entire tree. The next day he brought his ornaments with him and decorated the tree. My mother was motified. :rotfl: The next day they were all gone and the real ornaments were on the tree. The nephew was so upset at grandma. He thought it was the most beautiful tree he ever saw. I would have left them up, but my mom is not cool like that. :rotfl2:

OH - i just remember this.
One year my mom got these things...they were about the size of a VCR tape...it was a plastic maze thingie. YOu had to get the ball through the maze and into this slot before you could open the 'latch' that held the gift card/money in there.

I definetly kept us busy for a while...my brother got his open no problem...I had to take a hammer to mine. heheheh
