Here we go!

Thanks, Bernadette! It is KILLING me waiting for him to get home. I imagine he will be cranky since he couldn't sleep last night.

His school hours are 8:55 - 4:10. Lunch is either 12:30 or 1:15. I hope he got 12:30 because 1:15 is awfully late! I told him he should carry his water bottle to class so he can at least have something to drink, then he can buy a drink at lunch.

I don't "do" supply lists. We have a trunk (LITERALLY - a huge footlocker type trunk) full of supplies. It was all "required" stuff that I bought but never sent to school. I figured he could pull it out as he needed it. The supplies I sent to school disappeared, never to be seen again and definitely never used by DS. The thing is, he NEVER needed most of it! They told us for today to send the kids with paper and pens and the teachers would let them know what they need for each class. The only supplies I bought for this year were note cards, red pens, and a few composition books. He had everything else on hand. Paper, folders, spirals, pens, highlighters, all of it.

Yes, it really is that hot here. Heat index is 110 today.

DH just called. DS called him to say he is on the bus, but the bus hasn't pulled away from the school yet.

I'm sure he had a blast....and I'm sure there will be the obligatory grumblings about little things, but it'll be all good.....I'm excited for him!! :yay::yay:

I've been keeping up on FB but wanted to post here as well. I hope he has a great school year! I'm sure he'll do just fine. From the couple times I've met him he seems like a great kid!!

You'll do just fine too. Just relax and enjoy his stories :)

So...did he have a great day???

I just checked Lizzy has lunch at 11:02. I didn't realize that it would be all of the middle school. She has only ever had lunch with her grade. I tried to check to see if the high school that is attached has the same schedule but I can't find that school's bell schedule. I had always thought they kept the kids apart. They do however ride the same bus. I'm hoping the high school kids have better things to do then pick on the 6th graders. Plus I don't think too many of them will be riding the bus.

I forgot to post this link. Here is where she's going for her week long field trip. It sounds pretty cool! http://www.campbournedaleed.net/new/index.htm

Just wanted to pop in and say congrats to your son. I remember reading about the audition but never did find out if he made it. But he did, that is so awesome!!!! I hope he has the time of his life!

Thanks, all!! :goodvibes

DS had a great day. He said the classes are small, except for World Geography. For some reason they have pre-AP kids mixed in with basic level kids? He said the teacher kind of mumbles, so he isn't clear on WHY there are so many kids in there or if it is going to stay that way. Guess we'll see what happens on Wednesday. :confused3

He brought home 4 supply lists. I had most of the stuff on hand, but not all. Have to go buy sewing supplies for Costuming class, plus a few other odds & ends. I am sure there will be more supply lists tomorrow from the 4 teachers he hasn't met yet, but whatever. I'll go knock out the sewing list and then move on to the other stuff.

The bus was fine. Tomorrow I won't need to get out of the car. ;)

He has lunch at 1:15. He didn't drink more than a third of his bottle of water, and that includes what he drank with his lunch. I told him he HAS TO drink more water than that, especially since he sat OUTSIDE for part of his lunch! The teachers allow them to drink water in class. He should take advantage of that. He is already going to be scrambling to remember everything. Being dehydrated won't help anything.

He will definitely need a few weeks to find his groove. And DH needs to keep his mouth shut. DH doesn't understand ANYTHING about the A/B scheduling so he says things that make no sense, and it confuses DS.

DS had a great day.
:woohoo:That's great!!!!

For some reason they have pre-AP kids mixed in with basic level kids?
Did you hear about the "teacher" that got fired because of her postings on facebook that were "public"? It made the national news. She was from our town. She said she was "so not looking forward to another year in the Cohasset school system. The parents are all so arrogant and snotty." She wasn't a teacher. She was a Math, Science & Technology curriculum coordinator making over $92K a year. She said she's been under a lot of stress. I think her stress comes from the administration wanting to "level" all classes. No more AP or honor classes. All the kids will be together and the AP & honor kids will just do more work but all in the same classroom. I guess the parents and teacher's union fighting that were stressing her out.

And DH needs to keep his mouth shut. DH doesn't understand ANYTHING about the A/B scheduling so he says things that make no sense, and it confuses DS.
:hug:I can relate to that!!!!:rolleyes1

I hadn't heard about the FaceBook woman, but I am not surprised. :sad2: A long time ago some teachers from a school here held a "name burning" at the end of the year where they tossed scraps of paper with the names of families into a little bonfire. (It was families they were happy to be done with.) Well, somehow word leaked out and it caused a huge debacle. Some things should NOT be made public. ;)

Wish you lived here so you could help DS with his sewing skills!

When I was in high school my Anatomy/Physiology class had Honors kids and basic level kids in the same class. Identical curriculum, but the Honors kids had to do these RIDICULOUS extra projects. No wonder I still DESPISE projects.

You dont have a GPS tracking device hidden in his backpack? :rotfl2:

Well, sort of. I am sure we could track him through his cell phone. ;)

He is thrilled that he does NOT have to tuck in his shirt.

He has friends in his lunch, but most of his "A" day classes are with kids he doesn't know. He does have one good friend in Biology.

Today is "B" day. He has Diction, Audio/Visual Technology in Arts, English, Algebra, and New Works. Nobody knows what New Works is. :confused3 Whatever it is, there is a kid I can not STAND in that class with him so I REALLY hope he has some friends in there, too. The other kid is a bully and a jerk. We had problems with him in middle school.

I love that the bus has been waiting the past 2 mornings. I guess the driver gets there 15 or so minutes ahead and just idles until time to go. That will be terrific in the pouring rain because there isn't any sort of shelter where the kids can wait. It also means I am not dropping him off without knowing whether or not the bus actually showed up. :thumbsup2

Last year the school had a Gay/Straight Alliance. I am hoping they will have it again. DS said he would be interested in joining. I think he might join Film Club. He LOVES to make stop-motion films so I think he would enjoy it.

Ah diction. That was a fun class with my Yinzer mouth.:rotfl:

New works.....:confused3

Sorry to hear about the one kid but other than that it sounds like he had a good day and will have a good year. Especially now that he does not have to tuck in his shirt.:thumbsup2 :)

? He can carry around water with him? We were never allowed! Maybe because of the heat?

If DS has an accent I don't hear it. My accent is WEIRD, so it's a good thing I don't have to take Diction! :rotfl2:

They make the kids tuck their shirts in so they can't put their guns in their waistbands. ;) The official district dress code says shirts tucked in and pants belted. DS was excited that they don't seem to be enforcing that at his school. They did tell the kids they have to keep their pants pulled up - no "sagging".

There have been studies about the positive impact of hydration on learning, so more and more schools are allowing kids to have water at their desks. And yes, it is HOT here.
