I know this has probably been talked to death but because of my money or lack of I have to do some strict planning...

The basic tip at WDW is 20% right ? And do you tip the same for places like Crystal Palace and LTT , or is the tip included in the buffet ? I'm not going to be on the DDP if that makes a differents.

TIA

This is my opinion... I usually tip 20% unless the service is not great, then they get less, 15% or less. I tip more for breakfast as usually breakfast prices are cheaper and as far as buffets, depending on how attentive the server is, meaning do I have dirty plates at my table, has my drink glass been refilled, water refilled....just generally looking after the table or did they drop the drinks and I never saw them again... then you can bet I will be leaving a lesser tip, like 10%. I guess what I am saying is if I feel there is a great amount of serving and it is a buffet, I may still leave my usual 20%. And if I think a server is incredible, I may leave way more than 20%......not usually at buffets though, probably more at table service.

You asked if the tip was included in the buffet......I did not believe it was.....anyone else want to weigh in on this.

No, the tip is not included on buffets whether you are dining plan or not.

We tend to tip on the 18%-20% scale anywhere we go. BUT if we have a horrible waitress I will leave 10% if that. We have a local place that we frequent 1-2 times a week. We had a horrible experience with a waitress about a month ago. Did not complain to mgmt about her and left a 10% tip. About 3 days later we went back in and she walked up to the hostess stand as we did, turned her back on me and started telling the hostess don't seat them in my area. I made a point of talking to the the mgmt that day, told them how WONDERFUL our waitress was that day compared to the horrible service we had the last time we were in. When I go in now if that girl is there I make a point of requesting to NOT sit in her area. So I guess that is the trouble a 10% tip can get you!

There is an 18% "charge" that is added for parties of 6 or more for all table service meals. If you're party is 5 or less, the tip amount is at your discretion.

I also disagree that a standard tip at Disney is 20% Many people choose to tip 20%, but another person's choice does not create a standard.

Disney seems to feel that 18% is a good place to start for a base tip. This is why I feel they've selected 18% as the amount they charge for automatic gratuities.

However, there is nothing wrong if you start your tipping scale at 15% for average service and go up (or down) from there. That is of course assuming you aren't a party of 6 or more or if you have the DDE card-regardless of party size as in those instances you'll be charged an 18% gratuity.

Regarding your belief that the tip is included at buffets like Crystal Palace, I see where you'd get that impression. I was flat out told that by a CM and when I tried to correct her, she in turn corrected me several times assuring me that the gratuity was included at Crystal Palace. I do not believe that she is correct, but if CM's are telling customers that then some customers are going to have the impression that this is the case.
