Visiting all the thrift stores in Long Beach to get me a tux shirt LAST!

So I got busted today...On our way to the various thrift stores, I'm getting out of the car to go in and look for another shirt. Fran takes her phone (to play solitaire while I'm gone) looks at the screen and says, "What does, Visiting all the thrift stores in Long Beach to get me a tux shirt LAST! mean?" :lmao:

So I had to tell her all about LTP. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Well, in one respects, it simplifies things. I was gonna ask what you wanted to me to say if/when Fran asks how you and I knew each other. :lmao:

:lmao:

I'm on the phone with Comcast right now to get cable internet :yay: They're going to install on Tuesday!

YAY for Cable!

...:confused3 you haven't had calbe until NOW?

She still hasn't got cable....not till Tuesday! :rotfl:

Actually she knew about you when you were planning your May trip because I found you posting questions about Long Beach and followed you to the PTR and then your TR. It wasn't until you said something about the Games forum that I came over here! :rotfl:

We just had a HECK of a day, I'll tell you later because she promised to take me out to dinner. Good day, just tiring!

Feeling decidedly seedy because of Christmas work dinner/dance last night LAST.

And it's about 85 F over here. DS wants to go to the beach!!!

Catch you a little later LAST. :goodvibes

I remember.....but May was a long time away and I wasn't sure how much Fran knew about you being on the Dis.

I guess I was going to say that you helped me out with Long Beach food and we've been friends since.

She definitely knows about the DIS, I couldn't keep that from her, but the various threads, she doesn't know about them all. She knows I follow TRs and that I'm part of the DVC owners groups for all the places we own or want to own, plus AKV where we like to stay, but don't want to own since it's so big, we figure we can get in there at 7 months when we want to go.

The only one I wasn't really telling her about is LTP since I knew she would think that was a total waste of time. Her response was, "Well if you're having a good time, that's nice." I was FLOORED! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Good for her! (And you)

I'm trying to get pictures of my company Christmas function up. Are you interested to see them?

Too bad if you weren't interested in the function. Here it comes...:rolleyes1

Last night, my company held their Christmas function. The theme was a Touch of Oriental.

On arrival, we were greeted with platters of never ending finger food that just kept being re-filled for the better part of 40 minutes.

The rice paper rolls were fresh but a little bland.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas062.jpg

The Sushi was OUTSTANDING!

When we were finally called into the function room, this was how my company chose to decorate the room.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas069.jpg

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas076.jpg

The red lanterns were beautiful!
The red lanterns shot in the background show only half of the room. The other side was a mirror image of the decorations on this side.

In between the lanterns was the stage.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas071.jpg

Note the presence of the solitary drum on the dance floor.

We were seated at one end of the room, about halfway up. This was our view.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas075.jpg

The flags hanging from the ceiling were another really nice touch.

Our tables were decorated as previously shown with the red lanterns in the background. The tablecloth were stunning!

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas102.jpg

Our menu for the night.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas077.jpg

On the other side was the wine list – which I forgot to take a picture of. Sorry Alison!

There was a loaf of bread on the table, which I thought was not in keeping with the theme…..

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas078.jpg

…until they brought these out as palate starters!

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas087.jpg

A Curry Laksa soup. Delicious! It was a beautiful blend of coconut milk, curry and stock – easy to make but hard to get the balance right.

After they cleared away the cups, the lights dimmed and that drum started to make a loud noise…

The Lions had arrived.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas088.jpg

The Lions started to dance towards the stage…

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas092.jpg

…stopping at a number of tables along the way.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas093.jpg

The symbolism of the Lion Dance is that the fierce lion and the loud noise chases away the bad spirits. Obviously, it takes more than lions and drums to chase ME away!

Eventually, the four lions made it to the dance floor..

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas098.jpg

Where the dance continued to take place.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas099.jpg

Until the towering finale!

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas100.jpg

And then it was time for FOOD!

(continued in next post)

(continued from previous post)

The duck starter.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas113.jpg

The salad was fresh and crisp and the dressing was a standout. My only (petty) complaint was that the duck was served cold.

My vegetarian DH was looked after. He got a replica of the dish with the duck substituted for tofu.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas111.jpg

The cold tofu actually worked better than the duck!

The beef main course; which is what I had.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas115.jpg

The beef was beautifully cooked and the vegetables were lovely. The noodles underneath the beef were also fantastic. Unfortunately, the sauce was a little sweet for my tastes. But a thoroughly enjoyable dish nevertheless.

The other main course was the chicken. By all accounts, it was equally as good as the beef.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas116.jpg

I thought DH faired poorly, with this vegetable pastry roll. He enjoyed it!

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas118.jpg

There was a very good covers band that just rocked the house!

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas122.jpg

Sadly, dessert was served whilst DH and I were up; so I missed taking a shot of the display on the table.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas130.jpg

More than half of the dessert that was plated up was gone by the time we got back to our seats!

Thankfully, when it comes to Christmas functions, my company knows what’s really important.

Never-ending extras were dished out in the foyer area where the finger food was previously served.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas135.jpg

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas136.jpg

So, I picked up a plate and got one of each type of dessert on offer…there were four kinds in total.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas137.jpg

That chocolate tart was amazing! The ganache was a rich dark chocolate and hides a delightful caramel layer inside the tart. The little decoration is held up by a caramalised macadamia nut and the whole thing was a taste sensation.

The shooter consisted of crème brulee base, covered with mango and topped off with meringue. An absolute DREAM! The brulee was really smooth and the mango was a nice tarty offset to the sweetness of the brulee and the meringue.

0512RecitalandSMSChristmas138.jpg

The pick of the quartet were the sorbets – one is mango and the other is strawberry. I know it seems incredible that the unassuming sorbets would the pick given the other two delights; but really – you had to be there to taste them. SUPERB!

We had a fabulous night at the function. But then, my company really knows how to throw a great party….and I’ll be there for next year’s Do!

What Industry do you work in? WOW! Obviously one that has a lot of cash and isn't hit so bad by the recession! That was one heck of a party and a lot of people in attendance.

Although if I had taken pictures at the party I was at yesterday, they spent quite a bit of money for a party in the back yard. Heck! They hired a swing band!

We were pooped after yesterday. Setting up, playing for three hours, and then tearing down. We didn't get out of bed until after noon today! :lmao:

I'm in the management consulting game. My company culture is based on keeping the consultants happy. Happy consultants = happy clients. I've worked for them for over 12 years and have never been tempted to leave.

And there was/is hardly any recession in Australia. We're turning work away because we don't have enough consultants to place at client sites.

Ahhhh I can see where management consulting would be very expensive, so they can afford to treat people right. The sushi looked good...we had a little for lunch on Friday and found a new restaurant we liked, maybe I'll get some more often!

I can't believe it's only six weeks until your trip!
