Here now- MK security

For those who have gone when it seemed to be everyone going through the detectors, how long did it take to get through security? I can't see it taking any less than an extra hour to enter the park
No matter what some people say, it takes much longer than seconds to get through, unless there is literally no one else going through bag check and the metal detectors at the same time as your party.

Wondering the same thing...if no bag check then great! That always seemed to take up too much time, especially when you were so anxious to get into the park.

then how would they know if there is something in a bag? you send a bag through most are going to go off for other stupid stuff so it would hold people up still and would still end up having a bag check? makes no sense

I thought so. Yeah I meant the whole time waiting for and going through security. I wonder how long it really takes

The time depends on lots of different factors. :) Time of day, crowd levels at that particular park, if you happened to hit security at the same time as a ferry/monorail/tram full of people, how smart are the people in front of you ;) and how thoroughly security is checking bags. If you are due somewhere in the park at a certain time, I would plan on at least 15 minutes. :)

we got to Epcot when there was a monorail dump, so there was a good crowd built up. I was pulled for metal detector, my family was bag free. It took just a few seconds. the bag check line was significantly longer. This was midday.

PS. there was no one in front of me in the detector line.

If you carry an id and credit card in a lanyard, do you have to go through bag check?

I wonder if the question was asking how long it takes from start to finish to enter the park, as opposed to how long it takes to go through the metal detector process. A couple of weeks ago (before they were screening everyone, or close to everyone), if you had a bag you could count on it taking 20+ minutes to enter the MK. On our AK day, it was a bit longer than that. From the time we walked toward the entrance from the tram stop until the time we were fully in the park was a bit over half an hour. At the IG at Epcot, it was 2 minutes. At the FW entrance of Epcot, it was about 15 minutes. At DHS (before RD), it was 5-10 minutes. At the MK, it was around 20 minutes.
Yes, that is what I was meaning. Start to finish. Thanks for the reply, helpful

we went bag free last month -- I was pulled once at Epcot to go through the metal detector ... it wasn't a big deal & still MUCH faster than the bag check line. I was momentarily panicked when I realized I might have to empty my pockets ... I had one potentially embarrassing item in my pocket I would've rather not gotten out in front of the men ;)

I was surprised I was the one pulled for the metal detector, as my hubs was wearing cargo shorts. we had been cautioned they sort of scrutinize those more carefully.

my kids are older, but we'll never carry bags again. it was very liberating without them.
Did you have to empty everything or just the metal stuff?

I can assure you it never took more than 30 seconds to drop our phone in a bin and walk through
Every time. There has never been a back up in the one for those without bags, not at rope drop or any other time of day

You are only asked to remove metal object and phones, not everything

The stupid thing is that the more security they put in place, the more people begin to notice the areas that are not protected. So great, inside the parks are protected, but pre-security outside the parks, bus stops, monorail, and I assume Disney Springs are still completely unprotected and now more obvious than ever.
Yesterday, a Monday during the day, I observed Orange County Deputies walking about in pairs at Disney Springs.

Maybe they really needed a great sandwich from Earl of Sandwich

You know, if I was still on the job and that was in my sector, that is where I'd have many meal breaks. I saw two different sets, one by World of Disney and the other was over by the bowling place.

Our last trip was in Dcember before they installed metal detectors. We are going back in June. Will my artificial knee set off the machine? Probably.

I was there last week and the one time that I went through them at the MK, my knee did set the machine off. I told them and they just ran the wand over my knee. It took a couple extra seconds.

well if everyone is going through scanners, then they breakup the scanners, one set by the busses, one set by the launches, and one set at the hotels before they get on the monorails and at the TTC. Keep the extra lines away from the gates of the park

I was thinking the same thing. Screen at TTC...give those people a stamp on their hand that they were screened or tie to MB.

Screen prior to bus boarding at resorts, tie to MB or stamp hand. And then at the front gates, anyone without a stamp will go through security there (like people coming from Contemporary, or one of the monorail resorts)..

Universal has dome something kind of similar. If you stay at one of the 3 deluxe hotels, you are either scanned before you enter the Citywalk area, or before you board the boats.

They don't use stamps, but their system spreads the scanning across multiple locations.

Universal also doesn't allow bags on (many) rides, and has metal detectors at a few coasters. (No metal in pockets allowed.)
