I've tried Weight Watchers on my own 2 or 3 times and I always start out losing a little weight, then I give up and fall back into old habits. It's reached a point where I'm afraid to tell people in "the real world" that I'm trying to lose weight again, because I feel so bad when I fail.

So, I'm trying again. I picked up from some of the other boards that you guys are really nice and supportive.

I want to lose about 40 pounds and I'm hoping to accomplish that by this time next year. Is that a reasonable goal?

I joined SparkPeople and also Fit Day. But I'm not really sure where to go from here.

:welcome: to WISH!!!! So glad people are saying nice things about us and that you decided to join us!!

I know how you feel because I am a three time WW joiner. The first time I joined I was just like you, I lost a few pounds and then I quit. I have to say that the third time was the charm for me and the biggest difference the third time is that I didn't go into this as a diet, but a lifestyle change. I wanted to lose weight before, but I never believed that I could and I think that makes a difference too. You have to believe you can do it and you have to really WANT to do it and you have to know that this is not a diet because if you want to be successful you have to live it. It is a challenge in the beginning as you get used to the program and the changes, but after time you just start living it. I am not saying that it is easy or there aren't challenges, but you can make this into a way of life and you can still enjoy life.

Good luck on your journey. There is a great WW thread on the WISH boards, if you have time stop by, introduce yourself to the group. We are all on this journey and we are all here to help one another.

:welcome: I'm glad you found the Wish board. This board is filled with very supportive, motivating and nice people. Forty pounds is totally doable by this time next year! It doesn't matter how many times you've started and stopped WW - what's important is that you've made the commitment to try again!

If you're interested, we have our own Biggest Loser Challenge here on this board. It's actually finishing up today, but a new challenge is going to start when the new season of the Biggest Loser starts on TV. Just watch for a post about sign ups. It's a great way to stay motivated.

:cheer2: Welcome to the 2nd Greatest Place on Earth (behind Disney of course). This is the most positive, optimistic and encouraging place I have ever come across. I get more energy by coming here on a regular basis than I ever have from friends or family. So I would say you have a picked a great place to come for some support.

Now, for a couple of observations. My wife is a lot like you. She joined LA Weight Loss right before Mother's Day and started off like Gang Busters. She loss 10 pounds in the first week. Then she slowed down, a lot. She lost her motivation and willingness to stay with the plan or routine that they had set up for her to succeed. Here it is 7 months later and she is at 30 pounds of weight loss. That is a tremendous accomplishment but a letdown for her by her own admission. The plan that she was on had her set to be at about 45-50 pounds of weight loss by now so she is even more frustrated. I have tried everything that I can to encourage her but it seems like everything I say just makes her mad so she won't continue on her plan. She is maintaining her loss but not losing anymore like she wants. Does that make sense at all?

On the other hand, I totally agree with the other poster. This is not a "diet" but a lifestyle change. Here is a couple of opinions about the word "diet". 1st - The word diet is a 4 letter word and should be treated as such. This means we should eliminate the word from our vocabulary. 2nd - The whole concept of a diet will set you up to fail. What is a diet other than an extreme change in eating habits to loose a desired amount of weight so you can go back to the same eating habits you had when you put on all of the weight. (Sorry but I like that definition and will have to remember it for later.) But when we make a lifestyle change, we are doing what is right for us to live healthier and happier for not only us but everyone that we come in contact with. We are more active, energetic and even playful with our friends and family. This is a huge factor on why we make this change. Together, we can make strides that we never thought were possible. The first thing we have to do is make a plan of attack. Make the decision to take care of us as well as everyone else. If we don't take care of us, we won't be around for our families later. Now let's get out there and do it!!:yay: :yay: :grouphug: :cheer2:

Thank you so much for the welcome and words of encouragement! :teeth: It really means a lot to me. And it also made me realize that I was setting myself up to fail before I even started. I've got this mind set that I'm just going to fail again (I noticed when I read back through my post). So, I'm resetting that toxic mindset and I want to be healthy. :)

Is there a place to find out how much calories, fat, etc... you should be eating to lose weight? When I did WW, I got the materials from a friend and did the POINTS one on my own. I've moved since then and lost all the stuff (points tracker, recipes, suggested fitness stuff), so I'm not really sure what I should be aiming for in all these groups. I need a place to tell me what I should be doing as far as excercise time and quantities of stuff to be consuming.

I also checked out the Dr. Phil weight solution book from the library. I figured if nothing else, it may be interesting.

If you are not doing WW, you could try Sparkpeople or FitDay. I did WW for the last 10 months, losing 50 lbs. But I found I was not eating enough, so I have switched to FitDay. It is free (a plus) and relatively easy to navigate. It tracks your intake (calories eaten) and output (calories burned). You can journal there and it has all kinds of little charts and graphs to help you see where your calories are.

If you are a fan of BL and like Jillian Michaels, she does a radio show in LA on Sunday mornings. The radio station puts it on their website on Mondays as an on demand podcast (also free). She has TONS of great info on diet, exercise etc. The website is here

Good luck to you on your journey and don't be afraid to jump in and ask questions. Everyone here is SOOOO supportive, it has helped me alot to have my WISH friends there for me!
