Well, it looks like I'm just going to have to plan on booking another trip after this one to fit more stuff in!

Sometime during the cruise, if not immediately after - that's going to seem less like "should I?" and more like "How soon can I?" The unfortunately horrible news (and I am sorry to tell you this) is that DCL is addictive. I don't know how they get away with it without having to stamp a great big surgeons warning on the outside of the ship.

The good news is that if you book while on the ship, you get a discount.

Don't know when you can go again? No problem! Book a "placeholder cruise" (they can tell you about it on the ship). It's completely refundable if you change your mind later, so there is no risk.

Polo shirts are acceptable, as many are considered dress clothes these days. Many aren't comfortable in a full on button up.

While Polos are acceptable for brunch, they are not for dinner. While it may slip by, I have never seen a polo shirt for dinner. They are always at least dress shirt/tie or dress shirt/jacket.

You can make a reservation for whatever night you want, regardless of what your dining rotation is. Personally, I feel, for a first time cruiser, it's best to do the Main Dining rooms, and skip the extra cost dining (especially on short cruises). That way, you can make your own decision as to what MDR/menu you don't care for.

Having said that, I'll admit that we did do Palo on our first cruise. But it was a 15 night cruise, and I felt it was worth the risk of missing one of the menus.

That is a pretty definitive statement. Please provide your proof. If it's "just your opinion" that I am wrong, then you do not KNOW I am wrong. You just think I am. Those 2 statements contradict each other. As it is, several people have now stated they experienced the exact opposite of what you are saying.

By the by, there were nicer ways to say it. A few moments of reflection would have made some obvious. You could have said, "In my experience, polos have been allowed for dinner." "I was told by the grand high leader of Palo that polos are allowed for dinner." "I don't agree with you but that's just my opinion."

Disregarding HOW it was said (cause i agree with you that it was said completely incorrectly), here is one thing I HAVE seen:
I have seen someone show up for dinner with only a polo, and they will (if they have one available) lend you a jacket which you can wear over the polo. So it's kind of a "both of you are right".

As I stated in my original post, I've never seen it but that it might happen. Whether or not we agree with it, Palo has a dress code. People should respect that but it is ultimately the call of the supervisor/manager/maitre' d on duty as to whether they allow it on a case by case basis.

They used to tell you that on the website, but I can't find the reference anymore. I did find a thread for it in 2012. Didn't know they had shoes too!

I can tell you that they had some on the fantasy about 2 years ago. I didn't happen to notice if they had any on our last trip (this Jan).

If you are on your honeymoon and sans children, if I had to pick one to skip it would be animators palette. Not that it's not a wonderful restaurant (it is!). Just that for elegant / love bird you don't want to miss royal court or enchanted garden. Palo is a great place to have a nice dinner for a honeymoon cruise (we did on our first cruise which was also our honeymoon).

You might also consider a couples massage at senses.

Also: Make SURE you tell DCL you are on your honeymoon. Tell your wait staff and your room host / hostess as well. Many of them have some leeway in a little extra magic they can send your way and they love to do it! (Breaks up the monotony). Just mention it in casual conversation. Don't seek them out and start yelling it at them.

It's a tad ambiguous on the website for what the dress code is: Dress pants and shirt are required for men.

That could be read as dress pants and dress shirt are required. But could also be read as dress pants and (any) shirt.

If your experience is that you were allowed into dinner wearing a polo shirt, good for you. For many, that's not "dressy"

It's not my job to go looking for the proof. You made a statement alleging a fact that is not actually 100% fact. The onus is on YOU to provide proof thereof. Palo/DCL have NEVER officially said that polos are okay on their website. Polo shirts are apparently allowed at the discretion of whoever is making the decisions on a particular night. They have a dress code policy that a reasonable person would interpret to mean dress shirts. It is unfortunate that some members of their staff refuse to properly enforce it but that's on them.

Thank you both for answering my question, I appreciate it, but there is no reason to argue about it. Both of your positions are clear, one of you thinks that you can and one thinks you can not wear just a polo.
