I just put a hold on a room at the swan, overlooking the park, 187.00. I at frst wanted the GF but the codes for June arn't out yet and I dont have over 400 to plop down till the rates come out, is the swan worth it? I am doing the BWI for 4 nights after these 2 nights, I get so confused but in the end my trips always turn out fantastic.:D

I like the Swan. If you qualify for the nurse, teacher or government employee discounts you can get it for less than $187.

JMO, but I wouldn't even switch from the Swan to the BWI. To me, you have all the same amenities for a lesser price. I stayed at the Swan in September and would do it again in a heartbeat. I got a little better rate than you, because I am a nurse, I got it for $129/night. They also do teachers and govt employee rates.

I actually enjoyed being in the middle of the action at the Swan but not immersed in Disney. It was a nice break each day. If I wanted Disney, I just needed to cross over the bridge and walk 5 minutes to Epcot or board one of the boats to Epcot or MGM. Or I would walk maybe 2 minutes to the Boardwalk.

I'd take the Swan any day. I like being close to Epcot, MGM, and Boardwalk and the rooms are very nice. Good luck with your decision.

If you can get a decent price for the GF, I say go for it! Nothing compares to it.

I vote for the Swan, we've stayed there and both the Swan and Dolphin are wonderful.

I love the Swan...you can check out the Swan and Dolphin FAQ on the resort board, or click on the link in my Signature below. I prefer the Swan because of its understated elegance, it is smaller and it is right in the middle of the action. I am a teacher so I get the teachers rate.

Good luck with your trip.

You couldn't pay me to stay at the GF!
I just stayed a week at the Swan. The new beds are incredible!!!!!
The location is so much better then the GF. You have all those restaurants in walking distance. Epcot & MGM also in walking distance. The bus ride to the MK is very easy too.
Even with a code you aren't going to get lower then $187.00 for the GF. Did you try for an entertainment rate at the Swan?

And there are no bedbugs, so I have been told.

If only there was a concierge though...:jester:

If the prices were exactly the same, I'd probably spring for the GF over the Swan, but since they aren't, I'd choose the Swan. Its a lovely hotel, right in the center of everything, and the beds are truly heavenly! :)

never figured you for the Motel 6 type, JTB. ;)

I know many love the Swan, but the one time I walked through the hotel (I think we ate at the Dolphin that night) I wasn't a bit impressed. I'd choose the GF if I could afford it.

The GF is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

We really enjoy visiting for afternoon tea and the character breakfast at 1900 is great, but the hotel is just not worth the price IMO. Unless you're willing to spring for a suite, the guestrooms are similar to a Marriott, but you're paying for a Ritz-Carlton. We stayed for a long weekend last Memorial Day, and honestly, I regretted the decision. We will happily return to the Fort Wilderness cabins on our next visit!

Just curious, did you base the hotel on the appearance of the lobby? Beacuse yes, when you go into the GF the lobby is beautiful,, but unless you are in main conciege or suite you don't get to stay in a room with that lobby. The rooms are so much nicer at the Swan, just the bedding alone is worth it. My DH willnever stay at the GF just because the rooms are so frilly and because you have to walk outside of your resort to get places. It's so nice to just walk downstairs for breakfast or drinks especially when it's rainy.
