Henna Tattoos at Epcot

Wow-mine only lasted about 3 days when I got it done at Epcot. 20 days is great.

Have you done henna other places or just at Disney? I ask, because when I've done them at home, no matter what little tricks I do to try and get it dark, it ends up being slightly tan, and mostly looking like a disease on me. I've never wanted to fork over the money to get it done at Disney, because I assumed all henna would look like crud on me, but fairycat's color turned out great. I was told with my fair skin that it would not turn out as well, but again on fairycat it looks great! So is it just my body composition, or maybe we've been mixing it wrong here?

DD and I had them done on our trip in July. We had no problems....the artist was very nice....cost was $15 for DD and $25 for mine. We do have pics which I will try to upload, but wanted to say that our color was very similar to FairyCats. It was so much fun and the henna's lasted, for us, about two weeks. I got mine done on my upper arm and my DD got one done on her back shoulder.

Last month when we were at WDW I got a temporary tatoo. I don't think it was henna but it was black. I got in downtown Disney and they actually spray paint it on with an airbrush. They have all the Disney Characters and I got Stitch. It lasted about two weeks and that was with all the sweating I was doing being at WDW in July.

This is not a "Disney" specific problem with henna tattoos. My neighbors son had gotten on (I forget where) and had a horrible allergic reaction to it and it did leave a scar on his arm. It was a few years ago now and the scar has faded, but it was gross and from what he said very itchy and uncomfortable.

For me I would never get one just because I have very sensitive skin (which is why I don't have a real tattoo) as do my boys I wouldn't want to take the chance. I do let the boys get the temporary tattoos but not very often because they even leave the area quite red for days after it's washed away.

Here is a lovely picture we took while my daughter was getting her henna tattoo in Dubai in April. It cost us about $10, and lasted about 2 1/2 weeks. The darker paste you see here took about 12 hours to "wear" off, and it left a beautiful reddish brown stain/tattoo! Gorgeous!

I've done it! It faded in probably 5 or so days. It actually gave me a little tan line design, lol. I've done henna many many times in my life. :)

Have fun!

Back in post # 10 in this thread the poster talked about the dyes used that can make your mehindi be black. That type of henna is not what they call Body Art Quality (BAQ) Henna. Black henna can be very dangerous Black henna is not the same as natural henna. Do not be fooled by its dark stain. Black henna colors the skin jet black. It contains PPD (para-phenylenediamine) which is a black chemical dye that is used is used to make KEVLAR®, epoxycoatings, including fungicides, corrosion inhibitors, urethane coatings, rubber chemicals, hair dyes and polyurethane.

BAQ Henna color stains from a coppery red to a dark brown. It can be used for Mehindi designs as well as a natural hair colorant. I use it to bring shine, color and to hide my grays. If you want jet black for hair dyeing it is a 2 step process and you need to use Indigo as well.

My skin is also sensitive, and breaks out within minutes if something disagrees with it. I got a Henna tattoo at EPCOT and had no problems with it at all. It also lasted for ages, as I attended my college convocation two weeks after I got home and the tattoo was still looking nice and neat.

I got one last year. It looked like a bracelet and I LOVED it (I think it was called Goddess). It lasted about two weeks (maybe three? :confused3 ) and I LOVED it. No after effects or anything. I think it was about $20. If you get a temporary tattoo (like the one they give you at the pirates league), you may get a tan around it, like I had my senior year of high school (my then-best friend Rachel noticed it on my left hand during math class towards the END of my senior year. literally. it was a great day. "What's on your hand?" she asked, I looked and she showed me what she was looking at. "...That's the tan left over from my Disney trip last summer around my Pirates League tattoo" :lmao:). If you get a henna tattoo, it leaves no marks but looks cooler than a temporary tattoo. I'm looking forward to getting my henna in October.

I just want to jump in and say that if you are considering getting a Henna while in Orlando please DON'T get it done at IOA! I saw everyone walking around with the henna from Epcot and it looked gorgeous, and when we were in IOA for the day I noticed they did it for slightly cheaper than Epcot so I got it done.
It was awful!:scared1:/
The paste ran while he was doing it so it obviously wasn't mixed right and left whatever design it was looking like a giant smudge. I mentioned it at the time but he said it would only stain the skin on the bits he was putting on and not where it ran. He was wrong! When the paste came of it was just a giant blob on my hand and I was so embarrassed! I'd gotten it at the end of our visit so I could show it off to all my friends at school and I ended up scrubbing my hand raw to get it off it was that bad.
This was 4 years ago not and I'm not even sure if they still offer it there, but I will definitely be getting my henna done at Epcot this visit!

I got a flower design done on my foot. The paste started flaking a little bit after about an hour and the last little bit came off the next day. I noticed that the part where the paste was on longest was much darker. I stayed away from pools and was careful about washing the design in the shower. It lasted about two weeks - or at least part of it did - when I got home and started wearing shoes instead of flip flops it rubbed off part of the design.

My design was probably about 3" round and it cost $20 and took about 2 minutes for her to draw.
