Any idea if this is anything special? I'm looking on ebay and a woman has 4 plates for $120. I have never heard of Henn....is it one of those companies that has been around and I just never heard of them? Are they worth that much? The plates don't look special and they are brand new, so it's not like they are antiques. Just curious. I'm gonna try and see if she gets what she is asking for them.

I don't know if they are what you would say special but Henn Pottery is a company based out of Ohio - I believe a former Longaberger employee or something - there was some competition between the two firms.

Anyway if what you are wanting is retired or no longer available and popular the ebayer may very well get that.

I had two salt and pepper shakers that were no longer available through Longaberger and got 75 for each pair a few years ago.

I make handmade pottery on a pottery wheel. I've never heard of him. His work is all mold made stuff that he just sponged on underglazes and a clear glaze over the colors.

Just because someone hand makes stuff and has been around for a long time doesn't make their work special. It still requires special skill and a good design sensibilities. You wouldn't believe all the junk out there that people sell at exorbitant prices. :sad2:

If you are interested in seeing investment pieces of pottery, :magnify: take a look at some of our world master potters today, who are the art equivalent of Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh, in the ceramic world today:

(I've been trying to work it into my schedule for the last couple years to take a master pottery workshop with one of these artists. :worship: )

These potters' pieces will go up in price over time.

The first plate is stunning. I love it.

Imzadi, thanks for those beautiful pictures! I've been collecting handmade teapots for many many years (don't drink tea, just love all the forms they come in), and have occasionally purchased other pottery pieces. It's always a thrill to find something beautiful and unusual. Where are these potters you've pictured located?

I loved Henn pottery years ago and wanted their spongewear dishes for my everyday dishes in the worst way. They were $25 a piece. Big Lots just had a boat load of Henn dishes, platters, bowls, etc. for like $1, $3, $5 a piece. You bet I finally have the dishes I've always wanted and the whole lot was less than what I would have paid for one dish for.
