My MIL and FIL decided they want to tag along on our next Disneyland trip. We had already booked a studio at GCV, but they wanted to wait to decide. Now they are looking for a hotel and don't want to pay to stay at GC. They have thought about PP but I know that there are some closer off site hotels that may be a better options.

What are some that are equi-distance as PP that are off site that you would recommend for a couple in their 50's?

Thanks!

There are plenty on Harbor Blvd they might consider.
Keep in mind, by not staying onsite they will not have EE.
If they want to enter the parks with you and you'll be using the EE perk, staying onsite is their only option.

If it's like past years Disney will have a room promotion.
Here's a link to the one for Jan/Apr 2018. It was announced October 25th, 2017

Keeping in mind that there aren't really "resort" hotels/motels on Harbor, some are nicer than others. The Fairfield gets good reviews, and so does Marriott Courtyard (can't remember the full, correct name)... However, if they plan on spending most of their time in the parks with your family, and just need the room for sleeping and showering, we've stayed at Park Vue Inn (PVI), and Tropicana, and really liked each of them. Admittedly, we tend to stay at Trop more, because they are about $50-80 less a night, and love their new decor.

PVI was renovated back in 2013 or so. Their paint scheme in their rooms is what I would call a "southwest" palette. Beds are comfy, rooms are average sized, and they have a great breakfast spread (which varies day-to-day). I have no idea if/where they have an elevator, if stairs may be a problem. Their hot tub is nice; its in the middle of the parking lot, but has a brick and ivy fence, so it feels a little more secluded in the evenings/night.

Tropicana finished their remodel at the end of 2017. Their rooms now have kind of a Cali-surfer vibe going. Blues, dark brown furniture, some orange accents. Beds are comfy, bed linens are comfy, towels are sufficient. We've fallen in love with their King bed rooms up front, near the elevators. Our last room there only had a shower in the bathroom, but, for adults, this is pretty reasonable. No free breakfast here. Pool and hot tub are in the parking lot. I've never used them at Trop, but not for any reason; just haven't made a point of it.

Best Western Park Place is right between PVI and Trop, and people seem to like it as well.

While several Harbor hotels are closer to the gates than PPH, they are on the opposite side of the esplanade from the GCH. I don't know how you guys plan to tour the parks, take afternoon breaks, eat dinner with or without the in-laws and those sorts of things but they may end up doing more walking if they go back to your room with you guys for anything/want to meet somewhere by you guys for a meal etc but have to then cross back over to the Harbor side of things. It may be worth keeping this in mind.

So depending on the number of people in your party and the occupancy of the GC room you have, you could potentially add them to your reservation and get them keys so that they have access to EE with you. We did this last Christmas, we did not want to crowd 5 people into one room at the GC and my other half was not thrilled about sharing a room with the in laws, so they stayed offsite but still had access to EE with us.
