really don't understand forums, how do i know someone has commented on my post?

On the thread you post on/create, there is an option to subscribe to the thread. When you subscribe to threads you can choose whether or not you get emails, or if you just want the subscribed threads to show new posts when you log on the boards.

I always open the boards in this view: http://disboards.com/usercp.php

This shows the forums and threads that I am subscribed to.
