Ok...I'm not exactly new here. I pop in on occasion. Unfortunately, I never really have stuck with my weight loss goals. :worried:

But...I'm really, really trying hard this time. I'm about 3 weeks in. I've been in an internal struggle between by brain and body. One of us is working out and the other one is just being drug along. :lmao:I hope that makes sense. I just decided that with so many of my family members getting fit at the moment, it's time to jump on the train and get moving to. It's great to have that kind of support and see some of us working out together.

DBIL is getting fit for a job required fitness test and using his parents home gym.

DSIL is getting fit for health reasons using a gym membership and working out with me.

DBIL #2 is working out at his parents home gym also.

DH is working out at home and work.

Me, Zumba classes, the in laws home gym and anything else I can get into.

Now that you are up to date. I have a bucket list item of running a Disney (not for sure yet). Probably start at the 5K, unless I complete one at home and can move onto the 10K there.

So I signed up for a 2K as a stepping stone this next weekend. It's a run/walk. I have NEVER done anything like this. I have no idea what to take with me or what to expect. I know it's short, but where do I put my car keys? :confused3:lmao: Also...I came down with a sinus infection/bronchitis last Friday and haven't worked out since Saturday. I'm going to try to ease back into it tomorrow. Thoughts about this? I plan to make a dr. visit this week to get a rescue inhaler script since mine ran out. (sidenoted to say I have asthma, was really bad as a kid, not so horrible as a grown up)

Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen!

Congratulations on signing up for your first race! :thumbsup2

So a 2K race = about 1.3 miles, right? I'd suggest watching the weather forecast in the days leading up to the race so you know how to dress (will you need a hat for sun/rain? Should you wear a sleeveless top if it's hot out? Will you need sunscreen? etc.). Get to the race EARLY so that you can use the bathroom and find a good parking spot. You might also need to pick up a race bib.

Car keys - normally I take the car key itself off the of the key ring and loop the key through my shoelaces, hold it in my hand, or put it in my pocket if my shorts have a pocket.

I'm sorry you've been sick! I've been dealing with allergy issues this weekend, so I feel your pain. :( You might find that your energy levels are a bit low, so don't be surprised by this. It may mean you'll have to run/walk the race a bit slower than normal to finish strong. Also, drink LOTS of water in the days leading up to the race in case being sick has left you dehydrated.

Lastly, enjoy the race and have fun! And stick to whatever race plan works for YOU...during races it's really easy to get caught up in the excitement around you and run faster than you really should. Stick to your own walk/run plan and you should be fine.

Good luck!!

For those of us that work out that arent in the best shape, totally understand the whole internal struggle!!! The mind can be the best ally or your greatest nemesis!!

And that is AWESOME that you have such a great support group!! I am very lucky to have my wife, she is very supportive also! It make a difficult thing easier when you have positive energy around you!

Thank you both so very much!!

I never thought about using my shoe laces as a key holder. :thumbsup2

I still didn't work out today. My fever is on again, off again. UGH!!! I'm confident I can do this without hard core training this week, but if it were a 5K or longer I'd be more concerned. I can do this.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Many thanks, Karen

Having done a few 5ks at Disney, may I suggest you aim for the Marathon Weekend 5k or Royal Family 5k. They go through Epcot, which feels so Disney! The ones through Animal Kingdom are nice, but nothing compared to the World Showcase! Marathon Weekend will really make you feel like part of something bigger, and could even cause you to change your bucket list. Mine had a Disney 5k on it...then that turned into the Princess half...now I'm training for the marathon.

There are no Disney 10ks, so figure out which 5k race works and sign up for it. There are several 5k training programs (Galloway and C25K being the most popular) that range 8-15 weeks of training. Once you sign up and tell people, you can't back out! It's amazing motivation.

Good luck!
