What do I need to do to make sure my friend gets across the boarder with my daughter?
We went to the Justin Bieber concert this weekend with my friend and her daughter and family(yea, he re-scheduled to Wed.:sad2:) So, as neither my husband nor I can get Wed. off wtih two days notice,to go with her, my friend will drive her,and her daughter and stay the night.
What do I need to do so she won't get hassled taking DD across the boarder.
We didn't find out about the cancellation until we arrived at the gate at 10am--two 12 year old girls just devistated, not a pretty sight.:sad1:

Write a letter giving permission for your friend to take your daughter accross the border. Both you and DH should sign it and date it. Include addresses, phone numbers etc... in case a border patrol officer wants to call you. A lawyer should notarize it but if it's not possible a typed note with signatures will probably do.

Happy Travels!

You can go to a service Ontario commisioner and get them to sign the letter for free. They even have fill in the blank letters available.

Just look at the service ontario locations near you and find the one that has a commisioner of oaths. Your city hall should also be able to tell you where the nearest one is.

thanks for the advice, but I need the letter by the end of day tomorrow and work 'till 6:confused: All I can do is type up the form offered on the boarder services site without a notarized signature and hope for the best--pixie dust please.

Just remind your daughter and your friend to be completely honest with the customs / border officials. They may grill her with some serious questions like, "Where's your mom and dad? Why aren't they with you?" The border officials will want to hear your daughter's honest answer, not an answer coached out of her by your friend.

If she starts ranting about how the concert date was changed, you just couldn't get time off work, and she can't wait to see JB... That should be enough to convince anyone.
