We just got back from the Poly 3/26, went on dvc tour while we were there referred from a friend who bought in at AKL. We signed up for BLT signed all the papers, and are now having 2nd thoughts. I also never knew about resales. We would be paying 17,200 and getting the cruise, but after looking through the resales it seems to make more sense to wait until we are finished with our refi on our home should only be a few weeks and pay cash for a resale 100 points and then add on points at BLT. I am thinking either WL or AkL. I only saw the model room of AKL and have never seen WL. Any input would be great. Thanks Deb.

Forgot to mention we have until the 4th of april to cancel current contract.

It really depends on where you want your home resort to be. You do get a lot more "bang for the buck" at some of the other DVC resorts in terms of points, but for now BLT has lower cost dues. I expect that to change in the future though. The key is where do you want to be able to make 11 month bookings at? If you don't really care which resort you stay at, then go for the lowest cost and lowest maintenance fee you can put together. As long as you don't plan to travel during holiday times or absolutely need something quite specific like BCV during F&W time, or a Grand villa anywhere, you should be fine.

We got ours in September and are so happy. No regrets. You might just have buyers remorse.

Any WL people out there what do you love about this resort and could you tell me about the transport compared to AKL. I love the monorail and that was part of the reason why we chose BLt But I like the deco of WL and AKL. I am so confused.

We just came back from WL a month ago. This is our second stay at WL. We love it. In fact, my DW already claim that's the only place we will stay from now on. I can't say I disagree.

There is no monorail at WL. Instead they have a boat ride that goes to CR which you can take monorail to go anywhere. They also has an addition boat ride that takes you from WL to MK directly. We love those boat ride. The WL lobby is also very breath taking. If you come take a quick glance at my TR from my signature, I have post a few pictures of the WL.

I am looking into resale point at WL also. I just haven't figure out how this timeshare thing work yet. Still need to do some home work and ask a lot of question.

Remember that many resale contracts will not have the 2060 end date that BLT has. BWV, BCV, VWL, HHI and VB all end in 2042. Many OKW contracts also end in 2042, but OKW can be extended, for an additional cost, to 2054, or is it 2057?

If you're unsure, cancel until you are certain. I'd only buy from DVC for BLT if you want to use your points there mostly. SSR will be the most available and most affordable resale. Given you're talking 60% of the price for the same points, hard to justify buying retail unless you're getting something you can't get resale or the price difference is not enough to get your attention. You'll pay higher closing resale, but not that much. The price per point will be $40-50 or so.

Come over to the VWL groupie thread and you should get quite a few responses to this question....
VWL Groupies

At AKV the transportation is direct bus to all parks. At VWL the transportation is bus to all parks and the epcot bus is shared with FW. For MK you also have what is our preferred option of a direct boat that runs every 20 minutes. VWL also has boat transportation to CR/BLT and FW that allows you to easily visit either resort. And from CR/BLT you have access to the monorail.

We love the theme of WL, the food options (and I could say the same of both about AKL) and the peacefullness. We like the access to Bay Lake with boat rentals and the bike rentals that you can do a nice ride over to FW. And we like the boat transportation - both to MK and the Bay Lake resorts and always spend some time at each of them.

If you're unsure I would recommend you cancel the BLT contract and investigate the other options until you are certain. BLT will be there for awhile to purchase should you decide to stick with that.

I have not yet stayed at VWL, but only wanted in to DVC for BLT (love the CR because I can walk to/from MK and knew I would only be happy with this).

However, I was not yet comfortable doing the 160 point level that I would have to do so to buy in.

I knew the VWL would be a great 2nd choice because I could at least take the boat to CR and walk from there. I bought a small resale contract for 50 points to become a member. My plan was to then add on at BLT when I went on my annual trip in August.

Of course, I couldn't wait and ended up adding on only a week later, but I know have 115 BLT points and 50 VWL points, enough to get me the weekly stays that I want. I will be able to do at least 5 nights of the trip (we will be in studios for now) at BLT. If I can change the VWL rooms at 7 months so the whole stay will be BLT, that is what I will do, but at least now I own enough to make most of my stay at BLT (something I wasn't willing to chance).

Good luck!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. Who did you use and trust for resale? I will probably buy resale for AKL or WL and then add on some BLT points. I;m going to check out the WL Groupies now.

You do get a lot more "bang for the buck" at some of the other DVC resorts in terms of points, but for now BLT has lower cost dues.

Don't forget it (and VGC) also have the longest remaining contracts (50 - 51 use years of points) so the initial purchase cost spreads out longer if you are purchasing for the long term (as I was).

I bought 160 @ BLT direct from Disney (finished papers Nov. 4th) and JUST added 40 @ VGC (add on showed up online today - paperwork to come!). I've broken things out in detail before, but the way I figure it BLT is THE cheapest per point, but admittedly does take more points per night. All depends on what is important to you. If you won't use home resort advantage, buying BLT is your cheapest option.

AKV will have the longer length of usage (2057 vs 2042 for VWL) but will be a fair amount more per point than will SSR. Buy AKV for concierge and for 3 BR, SSR is still likely the better value if you want to try out multiple resorts over time.

We also visited WDW this past week and purchased at BLT. I, too, am suffering 'buyers remorse' but that will subside. I had my heart set on BLT since we visited last September.

I will admit that the model of the rooms at AKL were very beautiful - and we will definitely try that in the future, as well as WL - but I knew I wanted the option of BLT as our home resort. Our favorite restaurants are located in the resorts (Chef Mickey, 1900 Park Fare, The Wave), so the monorail was a big reason for us.

I agree, though, that you should cancel until you're sure. I also thought about buying resale and adding on at BLT but I didn't want to worry about not getting our full stay there and having to switch resorts, etc. or remembering to switch reservations at the 7 month mark.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Barbara

Jaki and **** at ********** are terrific. I highly recommend them and would use them again in a second! :thumbsup2

There are another 3-4 that are very reputable and any should be fine to work with.

And don't forget the sponser of these boards, The Timeshare Store, up at the top of the page. :thumbsup2
Have heard nothing but good reviews about them on the boards!
We bought BLT from Disney in Dec 08 and cant wait until our first trip HOME this Dec 09. :woohoo:
Staying at SSR with our DP's this May, pre and post Podcast cruise.
BLT's location was our selling point.
We have not stayed at WL, only dined there, so cant help you with that choice.

We stayed at VWL July 2008 and AKV 2 weeks ago. We were told that the same architect designed both locations. I love both. Granted, VWL is a lot closer to MK and the resort is probably one of the smaller ones. It was always very quiet when we stayed there. AKV was very large, and it is the furthest away from MK. The buses were always very full, but then it was March break and the whole resort was FULL! Oh, one other thing, the points for VWL seem to be more compared to AKV, AKV has more categories to choose from (value, standard, savanna, concierge).

I have a quick question about WL. How many people can stay at the Villas? I have never stayed at the WL, but I feel in love with it when we visited on our last trip. I would love to buy into WL or AKV. I love the rustic look to both of them.
