Help!!!

OK, so I'm just about to start packing as we're heading off tomorrow morning!!!!

Random question: Where should I pack batteries, checked bags or take on bags?

Last year I put ours in my hand luggage/carry on bag separate from any electrical items, that way they could see they were not inserted into anything. DH had the rechargeable ones in his hand luggage along with the charger and camcorder and digital camera. We had no problems going through or on our return.
