Help!!

I have a few questions -DH and I are considering purchasing a resale. I have read that this could be a timely process. We are looking at a SSR resale and would like to go the end of April. My son has a few days off from school and we would like to go towards the end of his vacation plus a few extra days into the next week (he would just miss Monday and Tues. of school). Would we be able to get a room? Do the DVC resorts fill up fast?

Can you use your points towards a non DVC resort at WDW like the Poly for example? How does that work?


Lastly, has anyone stayed at a non Disney resort using their points like in Europe? How many points does the average week in Europe cost? It can be any country just trying to get a sense of how many points we would need and we can't find information about it.

If you purchase in the next couple of weeks, you'd probably close by late January or early February.

At that time you should still be OK for April, assuming you mean the last half, and not the first 2-weeks which are Spring Break. Those Spring Break weeks can fill up a little faster, and of course they're Premier season, meaning they're a lot more points.

You can use points at regular WDW resorts, except any resort which also has a DVC component. These would be BWI, BC, WL, AK resorts. You cannot use points at any of the Value resorts.

Generally points for regular hotels rooms are higher, and not the most economical useage. For example, April 2007, a weekday at the Poly was 49 pts/night during spring break, and 41 pts/night after. This is for a Garden View room. The weekend nights in April were 88pts/night thru April 21st, and 74 pts/night after that.

Most consider that using points at non-DVC resorts is not the best use. You could get a 2-B/R DVC villa for fewer points.

For Europe you could use the Concierge collection, or do an exchange with Interval International.

For 2007, you could have stayed at the Dorchester in London, but at a cost of 95 points/night.

A better use would be the World Passport collection. There you get a full week. It ranges from 124 points for a 1-B/R during low season, to 270 points for a 2-B/R during High Season. Availability would depend on what kind of exchange you're looking for.

Keep in mind, if you use points for anything other than a DVC resort, there is a $95 fee required.
