Hi all. I'm not really new here but I was just approached my dad today, who lives in AZ and I'm in IA due to family reasons. Anyway, we are having some family issues and my dad was like would you rather have a big wedding in Iowa or a really small (Escape wedding) at Disney World. What would your answers be? The only reason I'm reluctant is some of my close family members wouldn't be able to come  Also, not to sound selfish (which it kind of is) do you still receive gifts from friends and family even though you don't have a wedding or reception. Help please!

i did the DFTW because i didnt want a big wedding & Dh & my families are very different.....when we thought about it, it was just a smarter decision to do an Intimate DFTW. We offered to friends and family if they wanted to come, but no one came except my mom.

In the end i had an incredibly wonderful wedding that was perfect for us & thats what you want to think about....what is right for the both of you, cause it is all about the 2 of you;)

good luck

What my DF and I are doing is having a smaller wedding at WDW (we are having almost 50) with a large, informal reception back in Michigan. I know a lot of couples do this, so their friends and family who aren't able to come to the ceremony can still be a part of their wedding. Our reception at home is going to be more of a big party, informal, and very cost effective. My DF and I are a lot of it ourselves and even with almost 300 people coming it isn't going to cost very much.

It really depends on if you want your family tobe there. If you really really really need to have them there and they all def won't be able to go then have it at home.

Me personally if most of my family and my parents could not make it then I would suck it up and have it at home. I am very lucky to have had only one person(my Aunt) flip out on me.

You have to do what makes you happy because you will probably look back and wish you had done your dream wedding.

About gifts,I personally think that the gift is to have your family members with you on your wedding. Most likely people will bring a gift. I am not expecting any though.

Can ask you a question? How much is your reception going to cost? Sorry for imposing, but I would really like to know so I know what to tell my dad.

I had similar issues when deciding. I was all set to have a large wedding in Las Vegas when I started considering Disney. We ended up deciding on the small ceremony at Disney and a big reception in Las Vegas. Yes, a lot of my family is upset about it. His parents threatened not to come because "Florida is humid in August". It's hard, but ultimately it is your wedding. If Disney is your dream I say go for it! I doubt you will regret it. ;)

Right now (based on our preliminary estimates- since the party is not until June 1, 2008 is around $5,500 for 300 people.) We are doing a laid back garden/barbecue theme. We have a hall and are decorating it to look like a garden complete with trellises, picnic tables, and fake greenery. Our menu is pretty simple- catered picnic dishes, a few meat options including a roasted pig, and a cake. We are also planning on having a live band. Our wedding is March 3, but we waited for our party so we can have our video and pictures back to share with all of our guest at our at-home party. You can make it as elaborate or as in-formal as you want; the sky really is the limit.
