Im busy planning for our Xmas trip and although we will have an offsite villa for the majority of our stay, the kids are clamouring to stay at Disney too (got too used to it last year I think!).

Anyway, I am CONDSIDERING the possibility of renting a DVC 2 bed unit for 5 days or so at the beginning (9th Dec - to around 14th / 15th).

Could someone answer a few questions for me? If I did do this route, is it more cost effective to rent points for a whole week rather than 5 days (bear in mind we arrive on a Saturday). Roughly, how much would it cost to rent a 2 bed for my dates (Im not sure what "season" they fall in). With a 2 bed unit, is there also a sofa bed in the main living area?? Im not really bovvered (!) what resort - although would slightly prefer BCV or WLV.

Thanks!

Congratulations on the new baby Allie :goodvibes

I'll take a stab at your questions.

Firstly, getting a DVC reservation at that time might not be easy because it's a popular time with members as the decorations are up and the points are low. I can understand why you would want BCV or VWL but they are the smallest, and the latter is much in demand at Christmas especially.

The weekend (Friday and Saturday) points are relatively high, hence the popularity of in Sunday out Friday morning trips. Again, with young children and arriving on a Saturday I can see why you might prefer a full week.

Here are some figures for you - I'm giving OKW and SSR too because these are the larger resorts and you might have a better chance at availability:

5 nights (in on Sunday 10th)

BCV 150 points
VWL 150 points
OKW 110 points
SSR 135 points

Now, for weekend nights (eg check in Saturday and out the following Saturday) you must add the following:

BCV 150 points + 60 + 60 = 270
VWL 150 points + 60 + 60 = 270
OKW 110 points + 54 + 54 = 218
SSR 135 points + 54 + 54 = 243

You probably know that points go for between $10-$12. So assuming you could get BCV at $10 with a good dose of :wizard: that would cost in the region of $1500 for 5 nights and $2700 for 7 nights. Hope you're not nodding off yet ;)

There is a sofa bed in the living room. Just a thought, if you picked OKW, the 1 bedroom is huge and lots of families choose them for that reason.

Just ask away if the costs haven't put you off :)

Moira, thats fantastic info, thank you!

There are 6 of us travelling (DH, me, my mum and our 3 children) so would definately need the 2 bed!! The costs arent too bad, but I think I would stick to 5 days.

Ive still not decided 100% but it sounds quite a nice idea in theory! I didnt realise it would be quite so popular at that time of year though - of course it makes sense with the low points and all the festive stuff up that it would be!

Thanks again, you have been really helpful!

Just to break Pootle's answer down a bit more:-

5 nights from 9th Dec takes in one Sat night (the 9th).
For OKW - the cheapest resort - a 2 Bed requires 54+22+22+22+22=142 points.
If your first night was Sun 10th it would be 22+22+22+22+24=112 points.

For BCV or WLV it would be 60+30+30+30+30=180 points.
If your first night was Sun 10th it would be 30+30+30+30+32=152 points.

Out of interest www.hotels.com is showing a 2-bed at OKW from 9th Dec for 5 nights at £275 per night.

Congrats too on the baby by the way :cloud9:
