My son is required to do a presentation in his nurtition class to make something (a recipe) for a healthy snack using yogurt! he was going to just put some mix-ins and serve, but now that he has seen what other kids have done, they are some very creative ideas...so now he is not too confident about his idea...what creative and healthy can you do with yogurt??

You can put a spoon in it and freeze it ... wa-laa healthy frozen yogurt pops! Yum! :thumbsup2

My DD (soph in HS) just got the class cookbook for healthy snacks. Each kid needed to present a healthy snack to the class and get the nutritional info and estimated cost per snack. I have no idea what the specific assignment was - but here are some of the recipes that included yogurt.

STRAWBERRY PARFAITS

2pound container of strwaberey yogurt
bag of granola
sliced fresh strawberries

assemble each parfait with:
4 OZ yougurt
1/2 c sliced strawberries
4 oz yogurt
top with 1/4 c granola

** - I'm sure you could make this with ANY combo of flavors - i.e. layer sliced bananas instead of strawberries etc.

FRUIT DIP
Put 1 c. strawberries into a blender of food processor, and blend until smooth.
Stir together the strawberries and 1-6oz container of vanilla fat-free yougurt, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, and 4-oz of light cool whip. Put in a covered container and chill overnight. Serve with fresh fruit dippers

YOGURT POPSICLES
Put flavored yogurt into 4-oz dixie cups, freeze for about 1-hour, then put in popsicle sticks, continue freezing overnight.

Every single smoothie recipe had yogurt...but I'm not typing them all out...

Took this from www.about.com cooking for kids

Yogurt dipped strawberries are one of my favorite healthy snacks. They taste amazing -- especially when strawberries are in season -- and they're loaded with fiber, calcium, vitamin C and more.
I like to use a maple almond granola (Trader Joe's makes a nice one) for the topping, because it adds a nice crunch to these yogurt dipped strawberries. But feel free to use your favorite kind.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
•1 quart fresh strawberries
•1/2 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
•1/4 cup granola
Preparation:
1.Wash and dry strawberries with a paper towel. Do not remove stems.

2.Beat yogurt until very smooth.

3.Place granola in a small bowl.

4.Dip strawberries, one at a time, first in the yogurt, then into the granola, pressing gently with your fingers to help the granola adhere.

5.Place strawberries on a plate. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Mix fresh blueberries (1 pint) with 2 containers of Weight Watcher Amaretto Cheesecake yogurt and top with slived almonds. Easy enough for kids to bother with and tastes great. One of my favorites.

Mix various chunks of fruit (apple, banana, etc.) with vanilla yogurt. Easy and tasty. When I was a Girl Scout leader I used to fix this on our camping trips for the girls. They can easily mix it up in gallon size Ziploc bags and everything will get well coated.

Be sure to use vanilla flavored yogurt, not plain yogurt! I never found one single girl that didn't like it once they tried it.

I made this grape salad the other night at dinner and the kids loved it.

1/2 lb red grapes
1/2 lb green grapes
1/2 C vanilla yogurt
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 C chopped pecans

Mix together to coat and sprinkle with brown sugar on top

My son loves fruit kabobs. Get drink stirrers, spear grapes, bananas, kiwi, apples or whatever fruit you like to look like a kabob. Yogurt as dip.
