Good Morning All,

First let me say that I love to read your commets, help and suggestions on this board. So I am writing you to ask for your imput, suggestions and reviews on "Window Blinds".

We are completing :yay: a long but much needed renovation/repair on our house and at our ages DH 58 and I 54 hope not to have to do this type of work again. I am to old and my sanity can't take another 5 year project like this again. :sad2:

So with that said, I need to install blinds on our windows and previosly had 1" vinyl. I just want a white, nothing fancy that look good and are of good quality.

I have been looking at the 2" faux wood and like their look. I am looking for some that will last but not break the bank, but hopefully won't have to install new ones for a long while. Has anyone installed any of them in their home, what brand did you use, 1" or 2", and what are your reviews on their quality.

I appreciate any help or information you are able to provide, I am just mind boggled by the brands and styles. :thumbsup2

Hope someone responds. I would like some answers too
thanks

I have 2" faux wood blinds on all the windows in my house. I've had them for many years. I'm pretty sure we got them at Home Depot (but I know Lowe's has them too). My late husband installed them and they still look good. I've had no problems with quality.

At my previous house we used 2" wooden blinds from JCPenney. JCP had the best pricing (with a discount code) and our windows were common sizes, so there was no need for custom blinds. We lived there for 8 years and had no problems with the blinds. I had both white blinds and wood blinds. The only thing I'll warn you is that the wooden blinds faded on the street side because of the sunlight. I didn't notice that on the white ones, but then again they really didn't get much direct sunlight, like the wooden ones did. If you keep the blinds turned in one direction all year...I don't think it will matter. But if you tend to turn the blinds, then you may see a light vs. dark pattern on the wooden blinds.

We just installed the faux window blinds from Home Depot in two of the bedrooms. I like the way they look. My only complaint is they are hard to lower and raise when pulling on the string. They are easy to open and close, but difficult to raise & lower.

If you go into Home Depot, they have samples out and the workers there are usually pretty knowledgable and should be able to help you.

Good luck!

We have used the Home Depot/Lowe's type before with absolutely no problem. They can be difficult to raise and lower because of their weight. When we would raise or lower them I would help it along with one hand under the middle/bottom of the blind. They clean up really easy too! Cotton gloves and a mild soapy water mix...eazy peazy.

We have 2" real wood blinds. They are custom and we had them installed 9 years ago. They are still in GREAT shape. When we bought them DH was working nights so we bought a room darkening cellular shade so he could sleep during the day. Guess what? That's the only blind we've had to replace. The wood have held up GREAT!

The nice thing for me was the real wood isn't has heavy as the faux wood and we they don't usually need extra cords. Even our biggest windows only have 3 cords running up and down. (make sense?)

We've had NO warping or discoloration and our house faces east - morning sun and evening sun.

I can't remember the name of the blinds but we have but we used a company called Budget Blinds. I'm pretty sure they are a national franchise.

Good Luck!

We moved into a new house last year and used Lowe's. They have a instillation deal for around $100.00 that someone comes to your home, measures all your windows and then comes back and installs everything. All I had to do was go to Lowe's and pick out what I wanted in each room and it didn't all have to be the same type. So I have wood blinds, cellular shades, and some faux wood blinds. It took the stress out of getting all the measurements correct and the time and energy of installing everything ourselves. The only thing I had to do was figure out what I wanted to go where. The person that worked at Lowe's that helped me place my order was very knowledgeable and helpful when I had questions. When I went in to place my order, he already had all the measurements in the computer and had a layout of where the windows were located. I was very pleased with the results. The Home Depot also has a similar instillation deal and the price is similar.

Anyone have a good pricing index? We are now in a house with nomal window sizes ( thank you Dear God). I want wood to match the wood work, blinds up most of the time. Looking at about 40 36" windows not counting patio doors and the inlaw apartment. Lowes, Home Depot, Menards.
I hate real curtains. I like blinds and small swags. The breakfast room is killing me. Double windows on 3 sides.
I would love to hear opinions on blinds. Clean up too! The plastic/metal ones we left at the old house were awful.

Dh would never let someone else do the install. Could I talk him into that?:yay:

I just purchased new blinds for a bedroom. I would suggest not to go with the routeless blinds. Mine were custom purchased online from usablinds & I purchased the routeless because they don't have the hole in the middle of the slat for the cord to run through. It keeps more light out. Didn't realize that instead they simply notch the slats & lay them in place with nothing actually attaching them. Now when I dust it is easy for them to slide off the track if I'm not careful.
