I'm having trouble using the Target gift cards I purchased yesterday with the 10% discount on Disney store cards!! Help! This is the first time I've tried to do this, so hopefully I didn't screw it up. I bought $300 in Target EGift Certs yesterday with the 10% off. We don't have a Target within 3 hours of my house, so online was the only option. Then I tried to use that to purchase the Disney Cards today and I got this error message, "Sorry, you can't use a Target GiftCard to purchase this type of card. Please choose another payment method." If I just spent $300 on Target cards that I can't use for Disney, I am going to be super upset. I wanted to use them for food in the parks. What am I doing wrong???

I think you can only use them at the actual store. It will not let you buy a Disney gift card online with a target gift card only at the physical store.

You can only purchase the Disney gift cards in store with Target Gift Cards or Target Red Card discount. They closed the online part of the loophole a while ago.

You can only use them in store and you have to use a self check out machine. They also recommended buying something else with the gift cards to look like a “normal” customer.

You are going to be super upset. I am sorry for you. There is no way to use Target gift cards to purchase Disney gift cards online. Hasn't been for at least a year. Imho your options are:
-other Target merchandise online you are interested in
-Target near Disneyland and finding out if they allow it (most stores do, a couple have issues- but just a couple so the odds are in your favor you'd be ok but it's not 100% guaranteed)
-Re-sale market on a gift card discount site like Raise or CardCash or something of the like, I haven't done that myself so I can't recommend any particular one but people over on the Budget Board (https://www.disboards.com/forums/budget-board.22/) might be able to help you with suggestions on which sites to use

None of these are what you want and I don't know which I'd pick in your shoes, just options I could think of for you.

Sorry, no can do. Use the Target cards for Target stuff you'll actually use. Or.....do it at the actual Target store. Some have been giving customers grief about it but I've seen thread after thread online and on Facebook with people asking about these Target cards for Disney cards, etc. Stacking discounts, and on and on. Good luck.

There is a Target store one mile south of DLR on Harbor. You should be able to use your gift cards there to purchase your Disney gift cards at the self checkout. I know for a fact that you can do this at the Target store in Fullerton near-ish the parks because I have done the exact same thing at that store. You do not need to buy any other merchandise besides the Disney gift cards themselves. Pick up as many Disney gift cards as you need, go straight to the self checkout register, scan your cards (it should ring up as entertanment/electronics), scan your Target gift cards, get your receipt. Ta Da! As others posters have stated, it is not possible to purchase gift cards with a Target gift card online.
Do you have a trusted relative or friend who lives by a Target store? Could you mail them the Target gift cards to have them purchase the Disney gift cards for you, then mail the Disney cards to you? (Use registed mail for both transactions.)

It must be in store :( we never have a problem doing it with actual cashiers here in Nebraska, but the self check-outs work too. The Disney gift cards count as "entertainment" so that's the reason you can use your Target gift card for them. I hope you can get it worked out, OP!

In store - most cashiers don't care, some will so just find a different target or try again later.

So I guess the question that I have that still needs to be answered is can I use an E Gift card in store and how would you do that? It's really just a series of numbers and a code. There is no card to scan. I can get to a Target on Friday to try it out

This should not be a problem. You can scan the bar code. I would print a copy and use that as a backup in case your have trouble scanning your phone. I would recommend using the self checkout to do this because some of the cashiers are weird about buying gift cards even when there is no problem with it. So I just go to the self checkout and I don't have to deal with anyone!

You will need to load the e-gift cards onto your Target account online. Then access your account on your phone. The e-gift cards will show up in your account and you will be able to scan the bar codes from your phone. The stores in CA where we have tried to scan a paper print out of the bar code have not accepted it. The bar code had to be on a smart phone. The managers of the stores told us that there has been too much fraud with the paper print outs. (How do they know there isn't fraud with the phones??) We had the bar codes on my phone and on DH's phone (as a back up) at the self check out, ready to go. The transaction went through without any problems.

That is good to know!

My local Target limits how many gift cards you can buy in a day ($250 worth) due to what they said was fraud/money laundering. I'm not exactly sure what people have done but they are all freaked out about it.

The fraud must have been extensive because Target won't even allow things like swagbucks e-gift cards to be used in store any more. All Target e-gift cards from swagbucks must be used online only (according to the fine print) -- which means that these e-gift cards can't be used for Disney gift cards any longer.

This is what I would do. I live in CA (northern, not southern though) and I redeem target GCs for Disney ones once a month. On Monday, I did $650 in one transaction. I don't buy anything else in the transaction (though some say it helps if you do) and I do it at self check out. In the past, I have always added the GCs to my target account through the app first, and scan it from my phone at the store, but last month the checkout stand required me to enter my "access code" for each card after it was scanned. An employee actually had to come to do it. I thought that was annoying because I had to go back to find the original emails to get the access codes. So on Monday, after I had already put 1 target GC into the app, I decided to print all of them on paper and try that out because the access code is printed on it. Your email should give you the option to do that. It worked easy peasy. The self check out hand held scanner took them without a problem. I didn't have to enter the access code either. And it didn't matter that one GC had already been placed on my online account. All the papers scanned perfectly and I was out of there in minutes.
So, I would suggest you cover your bases and do both. Add the GCs to your target account. Also, print the paper copies and bring them with you. But don't lose them- they're like money!

I redeem the target swagbucks GCs in the store every month for Disney GCs. Try at the self check out.

Ooops. I don't think I fit the normal customer MO. I bought $600 in gift cards, and that was it. I went through self checkout, and the employee recommended I use the RedCard for 5% off. "No thanks. I got 10% off already."
