I have a June use year and 83 points left in my 2016 use year.
I have all of my points in my 2017 use year.
I want to travel starting next June 1 on a reservation that will be more than 83 points.
Do I need to bank the 83 points from 2016 first? Then use them to travel next June? Or can I book an 11 month out reservation today without banking? Thank you so much!

To further complicate my question, I am booking at my home resort at 11 mos out but might want to move at the 7 mos mark. Is this all going to work? *feeling overwhelmed*

If you want to use the 83 points from your 2016 year for a trip that begins on or after June 1 2017, you MUST bank them before making the reservation.

Assuming you have enough points in your 2017 use year to make the reservation starting on June 1, 2017 you can make the reservation without banking. Since the trip will occur in your 2017 use year, you will pay for them with 2017 points - unless you bank the 2016 points first. Then you could use the 2016 points (which you banked) for the 6/1/2017 vacation. If needed, you could also borrow points from your 2018 use year to pay for the June 1 , 2017 use year.

If you decide to bank the 2016 points AFTER you've made the reservation for the 2017 trip, you would have to call MS and ask the CM to reallocate the points for the 2017 trip so that it uses the banked 2016 points. They will usually grant this request, but keep in mind that you are asking for a favor. If you do not use or bank the 2016 points by 1/31/2017, they will expire on May 31, 2017.

If you decide to stay somewhere other than your home resort and assuming that you will need to use at least some of the points tied up with the 11 month reservation, you would have to cancel the 11 month reservation before you can book the new reservation. If you have enough points to make the new reservation without using any that are tied up with the 11 month reservation, you can just make the 7 month reservation and then cancel the home resort reservation afterwards. (This is "safest" option if you are going at a popular time and don't want to risk ending up with nothing). However, if the 11 month reservation uses banked points, you will have to call MS to get the banked points reallocated to the 7 month reservation.
