Hi all! The landscape fairy visited our new house recently. She put in some pretty nice trees, shrubs, and plants. One tree, in our front yard, I can not identify.

This is fairly embarrassing as Dendrology was a required course for my major in college and despite how boring it might sound, it was actually one of my favorite classes.

Well, I am not doing well with this new tree. So, I was wondering if anyone out there could help. I put some pictures up on a web site.

Thanks,
Ted

Umm, I don't think so. It is planted as a single specimen tree.

Do all holly trees/shrubs have the traditional "holly shaped" leaves? These are round.

It wouldbe fitting if it were a holly. :)

At first I thought it was a rhodendrun but the berries threw me.. not sure now..

amid chaos I told Holly that you thought it might be a holly, so we looked at the web site of a local tree and shrub grower. I don't think this place supplied the trees to the Landscape Fairy, but I did find out what kind of tree it is!

It is an East Palatka Holly!!!

It looks like a neat tree. I am not sure if this pyramid shaped tree will be best for directly in front of the house, but we will see.

We also have some Live Oak in the back yard, some Japanese Yew (Podocarpus macrophyllus) around the AC unit, something that looks like Bird of Paradise, and what I think is a Leyland Cypress.

Thanks Amid and Mackey! I can't wait to have a yard of my own to do some planting and gardening in!
