Recently booked an Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Freedom for our family of four (DS will be 13, DD will be 11). Thinking about arriving the day before and using DVC points to stay at WDW for one night. Obviously we could use the DME to get from MCO to our resort. Question is how do we get from the resort to Port Canaveral? I looked at a few websites and they all seemed to want to put us into a town car or limo. Is there a cheaper option?

The cheapest would be a one way car rental. I have gotten them for as low as $40. You could also check out cocoa beach shuttle.

Royal does have a shuttle (call them to arrange it), but it goes from the airport. So you could ignore DME and get a car from MCO and then just return it the next day and jump on the (pre-arranged, of course) shuttle.

(more complicated would be DME to WDW then DME to MCO then get the shuttle)

Or the one way rental, though it's not always as cheap as leslie mentioned.

Or a towncar/limo.

I am looking at the same thing for Western Caribbean cruise. The cheapst would be If I could find 2 other people at WDW to share a Florida Tours car to the port. Second cheapest is a rental car. The RC shuttle from MCO to the Port is $37.50 per person one way.

I think your cheapest option is a one-way car rental. We did this June. We had the car for two days (fly in Friday evening to MCO, turned it back in at Budget in Cocoa Beach on Sunday) for ~$55

So there's a place at the port to return rental cars? Which companies?

There are a lot in near Port Canaveral. Google. So far I have been price comparing Dollar, Hertz, Avis, Budget. I think most are near the port in Cape Canaveral. I am going to call to make sure they have a shuttle to the port. My DS used one of those and said most do have a shuttle.

We used Budget before our cruise and they had a free shuttle to get to the port after dropping off the car.

We used National after our cruise and they had a free shuttle to get to the rental location.

Something else to consider if you haven't booked your flight yet... look into flying from Melbourne. It's 45 minutes to an hour from Cocoa Beach (about the same as MCO). But the airport is much smaller (although only served by two "main" airlines, Delta being one), and security is a BREEZE compared to MCO.

. . . Question is how do we get from the resort to Port Canaveral? I looked at a few websites and they all seemed to want to put us into a town car or limo. Is there a cheaper option?
How much were you quoted for a town car?

We will be staying at WDW for a week before our RCCL cruise. Are town car companies able to come to our WDW resort to transport us to Port Canaveral? I thought I heard that Disney only allowed certain companies. Our other option would be to take DME to the airport and pickup the service there, but I would like to avoid this if possible.

My understanding is any limo company can transport you. Many have been mentioned on this board. Happy Limo, Ace, Fla Tours. Some are more expensive than others.

You can hop over to tje DCL thread and search "Transportation" and you will see many threads.

You can also google limo service WDW to port and get many hits.

Get some quotes and see what makes sence for your family.

I have always rented a car in dropped it off in Port Canaveral (its so close), they have shuttles to take you the the ships. I sometimes drop the family off first at the ship with luggage and go return the car than I take the shuttles and meet them out front. It's easier and faster to get on the shuttle as one person.
