Help with Song of The South DVD

I came across a link to a website on Myspace that sells DVD's of "Song of the South". It says it's a European version (duh!), and that it can be played on American DVD players. They are calling it the "Official Song of the South".

The company is based in Salem, OR. I'm not sure if I can post a link here, but if anybody knows about this site or has done business with it, please let me know. Otherwise you can PM me and I'll send a link to it.

To My knowledge, there is NO official DVD copy in existence. I have never heard of a SOTS DVD in PAL or anyother Format. IT DID get released in PAL Video and Laser Disc, so it may be a DVD transfer of that. I could be wrong of course, but that is to the best of my understanding. Due to stupidity on the parts of higher ups, there is no NTSC version (despite the re-releases of Dumbo which has just as offensive if not more so stereotypes.)

There are also MANY MANY MANY MANY vendors who sell bootleg copies on DVD. I won't list names but you can find them easily. I bought one and the quality is good considering... Of course Once Disney smartens up and releases it for real, I will go out and buy a copy from them.

Also check out, Songofthesouth.net .... Great news site on the issue and they have a cool shop of merchandise... No copies of the movie, but some cool books, etc.

There was a legit copy sold in Disneyland Paris for a short time as a souvenir, now I don't know if what they are seliing is this, but it would make sense that it would work in all countries as a souvenir.

From what i have read, Disney is doing NOTHING to stop the bootlegs at this time. Given how hard they go after intellectual property cpyrights, I'm guessing this is true.

DH has the laser disc that was released in Japan. We got it used here in Las Vegas at Record City on East Sahara and paid about $175 maybe 9 years ago. We just adjust the settings on the player so the English only track is playing. Maybe somebody is selling a bootleg copy of this.

Yeah, these guys are right. There are is not, nor has there ever been, an official DVD release of Song of the South. Even the one that was advertised as being sold from Euro Disney is a bootleg. They pretty much are all rips from the Japanese laser disc. The quality is watchable, but don't pay too much. You can find them online for less than $10 if you look in the right places. If you're savvy to the use of bit torrent technology, you can actually download the movie from several places for free.

sorry but i dont know anything about the site that sels the european video but i do know some sites that u can look on to buy yhe song of the south. one site is calledjdvds1994.com and the other is called officialsongofthesouth.com . im not sure how much they cost but u can buy the dvds in different laguages and also in different versions that have deleted scenes or are an unedited version. the sites have pictures of the dvds so u know what it looks like and u can send the dvd back if u dont like it. they also show clips from the movie. one of the sites is actually a reasonable sight( i think its the second one called officialsongofthesouth.com) because when disney made the movie they made alot more than they neede to so the people selling them are trying to get rid of them. Those are the only sites that i know of that you can get the movie from unless u try E-Bay. so i hope this helps u out.
