We are planning a May 2016 trip. We have stayed at POR twice and loved it but would love to try and stay at CR this time. My DH does not think the extra $1500 is worth it. Would love to stay at Wilderness Lodge Villa but not with all the construction going on.
Is the extra money really worth it?? We will be traveling with a 17,7 and a 5 yr old.

For ME, it would not be worth it, $1500 is a lot of money.

How about a different moderate?

I think only you can decide if it's worth it.

The big pro of CR is that it is walkable to Magic Kingdom, you can watch fireworks from the beach, and there's the monorail. The food options are good, and you have ready access to other food on the monorail loop. The rooms are large, generally with 2 queen beds and a pull out. Transport to HS, AK and DS is often on buses shared with other monorail resorts.

The big downside of CR is cost (as you've identified), the monorail is not always reliable, noise in the main tower/distance from garden wing.

Many would call the theme a little "blah." This is a plus or a minus, depending on your perspective.

At POR, you get the two queens and a pull-out. The pool theme is a bit more fun, and you have access to the POFQ themed pool. You bus everywhere, save Disney Springs.

I would say that for many, deluxe vs. mod comes down to how much time they plan to spend at resorts vs. parks. If you're park warriors, don't spend the extra for a deluxe that you just sleep in. The value of a deluxe starts showing itself when you use the resort for leisure.

Just a couple of notes on the information above: Watching fireworks from CR is from the 4th floor (public) balcony, from CG on the roof, or from one's room if you book a theme park view. When we stayed at CR, you could not see the MK fireworks from the beach/marina area. Also, the extra bed is not a pull-out. It is a day bed (twin size), which I think is more comfortable than most pull-outs.

Personally, I would stick with POR, but I don't find the CR appealing in any way, especially with kids.

My kids loved when we stayed at bay lake tower. It was great to be able to walk to magic kingdom. They loved the monorail going through CR.

Actually, we found CR especially great for kids with the monorails gliding through, the view of MK from our room, and most importantly, the easy walk to/from MK. All that being said, everyone has their own outlook on the place.
BTW- Our favorite is still the Poly!

For us, when it comes down to comparing resort costs, if it's too much more for me to spend then I do a split stay. Next March, we are staying at GF and the cost is simply too high for us (Easter week) so I've started out with 3 nights at POR and then 5 nights at GF. Now our total cost of the trip is in my range.

As far as CR versus POR....for us, the extra cost is worth it. We are a family that LOVES resorts within walking distance to some parks. It changes our touring style because we feel more relaxed as we can come and go easily whenever we please. No lines, waiting for a bus, etc. Obviously, the proximity to MK is a huge plus -- love watching Wishes right from CR.

I can't tell you if it will be "worth it" for you.

I've stayed at BLT. I love the location, and really enjoy the CR's "vibe." But, I stayed there using my timeshare. When I pay market rates, I generally choose a moderate, because that strikes me as the sweet spot in terms of cost vs. what I'm getting. $1500 buys a lot of Mickeybars.

Have you checked into the Garden Wing at CR? We booked a room there several years ago because the tower was sold out.

I was worried we would be disappointed but we absolutely loved it!

For me $1500 wouldn't be worth it - I could do a lot more with that $1500, like extra days, more ADRs, T-shirts, etc...
