help with photoshop!

i want to make family shirts and I am completely clueless!! How do I make layers, etc.

is there a tutorial someplace?

I use PS Elements and along the top there is a 'layer' selection tab. If you select it, click on add new layer, name the layer and then continue.

The book I always reference is Photoshop for Dummies. It has some great tutuorials.

i tried the layer tab on the menu bar of PS 7.0 and it is not a choice? (like it's grey not black) I will see if the library has the dummies book

My db highly recommends the DUmmies book (and he's no dummy). Seeing as he's doen way more complicated stuff than me, though, I just call him!
