Hi everyone,
I am working on planning our second trip to DLR this December and could use some help. We are wanting to stay on-site (I'd love to stay GCH but looks like it will probably end up being DLH due to costs), but I am unsure of how far out I need to book and how to locate the best discount for that time. We are planning on needed one room (standard room but I will be wanting to upgrade the view at either hotel we stay at) and are staying approximately Dec 10-16 (dates subject to a slight change but hoping to leave before most kids are out of school and at DLR). I have checked the usual travel sites as well as the usual Disney-related sites and other than the typical 15-20% orbitz that periodically comes out I haven't found anything else and sounds like due to the 60th there may not be any Disney % off released this winter?? Anyone have any advice on how to get the best deal at either resort for early/mid December and how far out I need to book to make sure we don't lose out on our room?? I would appreciate any and all help or tips- TIA!!

They had discounts thru early june, so I wouldn't absolutely say they won't have discounts for fall or early winter, but those won't get revealed until closer to that time. Just find the best rate for now that is fully cancellable with no penalty, and keep an eye out for better.

If DLR releases any discounts for its onsite hotels at all this year -- and that is uncertain as it is expected that there will be many people visiting the parks for the 60th, and DLR may not feel that they need to attract extra hotel guests -- what you would need or get would be a Fall discount. There won't be a Winter discount that includes December. There would be a Fall discount that includes -- at most -- the first 2 weeks of December, possibly stopping right after the weekend before Christmas (in other words, the latest it would extend would be December 20th, and it may not even go that far). A Fall discount would include certain weeks or days in October-November-December, but not any specific holidays or holiday weekends, or times when Disney expects bigger crowds.

If there is a Fall discount this year, there would probably be one version of it with a higher discount offered to AP holders, and then another version with a smaller discount offered to the general public. It would probably pop up on the DLR site or in Disney online media sometime by early September.

There could also be some sort of Disney Visa discount (there was one last year).

As for any other discount services or sites like Orbitz, I don't know.

Last year, when the Disney hotel discounts popped up for both Disney Visa and for AP holders, the rooms were booked up pretty quickly -- almost immediately, which is usually not the case. This was due to some other events going on within the same time frame (one of which was a pharmacy convention in Anaheim, for which the attendees got great discounts on DLR hotel rooms), which was an uncommon occurrence. Normally there wouldn't be other events taking up lots of hotel rooms in the first half of December (not even the Candlelight Ceremony guests take up all the rooms), so maybe this year will be back to normal.

I was on the same boat looking for deals for our Winter trip. We're doing a split stay with two nights at GCH. I could've considered the Orbitz promo code, but it only goes up to Dec. 31, tsk. I couldn't wait any longer so I just booked a room, hoping for discounts somewhere else in the budget.
