We have always rented a car since becoming DVC and DME stopping. I am looking into what it would take to not rent a car this time. We land at MCO 930pm 8/19 - need to get to CCV. 8/22 we switch hotels to the Renaissance Disney Springs. Then back to MCO 6am 8/25. My corporate rate on the rental car is $364 for the length of stay. two adults and one child travel party.

Mears bus to CCV - Disney bus to DS walk to Renaissance - Mears bus to MCO - yes?
OR is uber/lyft worth it?

We get free parking for CCV obv. I'm on points at Renaissance for room cost. It has a $45 resort fee and $30 parking fee as well. I was going to stay out at Flamingo Crossings when we were renting a car. There is no resort fee, breakfast and $15 parking. Basically I'm paying the resort fee to get the early entry and reliable Disney park shuttles, because shuttle situation isn't ideal out there. And I won't complain about another Joffreys or Main Street stop for breakfast :cutie:

I am having a really hard time deciding on this. Not so much the price factor as the feasibility and convenience. We only have carry ons so not tons of luggage. Would you rent the car, take the bus, take an uber?

If you use Mears to and from MCO, that's $90 ($16 + $16 + $13) right there (actually, slightly more since there's a fee to go from MCO to WDW). I'm pretty sure you'd have to take a rideshare or taxi from CCV to the Renaissance since unless by "carry-on" you mean "not very large backpack," luggage isn't allowed on Disney transportation. Perhaps that'd be another $20 or so (not sure of the rate, but you can look it up online).

I just saw that you have to be at MCO at 6 a.m. on 8/25--or is 6 a.m. the time you plan to leave to get an 8 or 9 a.m. plane? Because if the plane's at 6 a.m., than Mears is going to pick you up at an ungodly hour--probably 3 a.m. or so. That's something to consider right there.

After doing a bit of searching I cannot find out if the shuttle service from the Renaissance to the parks is free and/or if it requires a reservation. Perhaps you know the answer to this yourself. I do think these shuttles run on a schedule that's a lot less frequent than transportation from an on-site resort. The inconvenience of that would drive me nuts, but perhaps it's not a big deal to you.

Therefore, no car + Mears + rideshare to the Renaissance + shuttle use = maybe $160 (more if there's a fee for the shuttle). That's less than half the price of renting a car and you wouldn't have to pay to park at the Renaissance.

If you took a rideshare to and from MCO, I'd budget $150 minimum for that. It could cost significantly more. I've taken an uber from MCO to WDW for ~$80 before. It's not unheard of. And even though you're arriving in late-ish, the fees could still be high. Then you'd take a rideshare from CCV to the Renaissance--say another $30. So this method would cost you somewhere between $180 and $210. Slightly more $ than the Mears + rideshare method. But you'd get everywhere somewhat faster.

Renting the car has several advantages but it's probably nearly $150 more expensive than either of the above 2 methods.

Since you usually have a car, you might find using ubers and/or Mears and uber + the shuttle could be really annoying.

Just to throw a wrench in to everything--have you considered staying on-site for the final 3 nights? Maybe at one of the POR hotels? Or even Pop? Thought I'd throw it out there.

For me, I'd probably switch to an on-site resort. The shuttle thing is totally unappealing to me.

But if your goal is to save $, then Mears + rideshare to Renaissance + using the shuttle is the way to go.

If convenience is your goal, then rent the car. Maybe you can find a better rate.

Other than one trip when DME was offered, we have always rented a car for Disney. We fly into MCO and a rental car provided the most flexibility. We might decide to go off-property to eat/shop or do something else we hadn't previously planned. Most of that we never decided ahead of time. The cost of any of the online taxis will quickly add up if decide to use them while at Disney.

Eating off-site is generally less expensive and many good options. The savings from having a rental car isn't just about transportation.

Resort fee / parking / Car rental = $439 (plus gas)(plus an Uber on hotel change and trip to MCO.

I would look at staying at an Allstar resort or Pop instead of DS hotel. Disney transportation the whole time and Mears round trip.
considering pop or aoa. never been to either.

Considering your dates are just a little over 2 months away, it might be a challenge finding availability at Pop. (A friend looked for similar dates just yesterday and Pop had no availability.) AoA might be an option.

I just checked AP rates at Pop for 8/22 to 8/25: $159.75/night (without tax). So perhaps things have changed. AoA isn't available at the AP rate.
