Help with non-disney (budget) hotel for college daughter

My DS19 and a friend have decided they want to head to Disney in a couple of weeks to watch their old cheer squad (and friends sister) compete in cheer nationals. They have worked it out with their college professors (or at least she says they have). She will foot the bill for the trip if I decide to let her go. Of course, staying on property is out of their budget. (I checked and all value resorts are booked, anyway.) Any suggestions on a good/cheap resort? She sent me a link to Maingate Lakeside Resort and Rodeway Inn Maingate. Reviews were anywhere between bad to OK. Reviews for both, though, said the locations were a good. Is this area safe for 2 college age girls alone? Each day, they will probably leave first thing in the morning and not return until late at night.

I would appreciate any suggestions. We have always stayed on property.

I would not suggest either of those. I dont recommend staying on 192 (Irlo Bronson Hwy) or Intl Drive.

Think LBV. There is a Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and Clarion Inn that arent expensive and in a better area. They are all off Palm Parkway. If they can book a hotel with interior halls to the rooms it is safer.

Take a look at mousesavers.com for specials on the DTD hotels. We recently booked the Hilton for $89. That still may be out of their range but check out the site to see what other specials they list.

My DS is a high school coach and takes his team to Disney every year to compete. They stay at the Baymont Inn Celebration. It's "on" 192 BUT the same side of I-4 as Disney. (Don't let them stay on the other side of I-4, 192). It is a few minute drive to Wide World of Sports and the back road by the resort goes right in by Animal Kingdom. It's very safe and the hotel itself is very reasonable and nice (and DS is hotel snob). They feel their kids are safe and are allowed to walk to local restaurants. VERY reasonable, around $60 a night and includes breakfast.

The problem with DTD hotels is many have resort fees and parking fees which often makes a great rate not so good.

Thanks! I'm kind of doubting I will let her go anyway, but, wanted safe/economical options in case I do.

We stayed at the Lake Buena Vista resort near DTD to and from park transports, walking distance to DTD. It was nice there... The place directly across the street looked better! :)

We also stayed at the Wyndham near Universal, that was a nice hotel.

Have you thought about going also? I would have a hard time with it, but my DD is only 5 so I have a while yet. Didn't know if you stayed at the same hotel as her, just did your own thing was an option. My mom did stuff like that for trips like this.

P.S. Props to your DD for being so young and being able to pay for a trip like this!

I wish I could go! I'm a CPA, so, going is out of the question. My DS15 is going with a friend whose sister is cheering. They will have 2 fun filled at the parks while friends parents go to the cheer thing.

IF I let her go, she would have to pay for room and gas. That is why she is looking for inexpensive. I DEFINITELY won't let her go if I don't consider it to be safe. I thought for my own peace of mind, I would spring for some of the room if I could get them in Value, but everything is booked. I'm thinking she is realizing she would rather save the money for Spring Break or something like that. I hope...so I don't have to possibly be the bad guy!

Thanks for the advice!
