Help with Myrtle Beach, please

We will be going to Myrtle Beach next summer for the first time. There will be atleast 15 (including the kids) of us. We normally rent a large house at the Outer Banks but my niece has a dance competition in MB during the week we normally vacation so we are combining it into 1 trip. Would someone familiar with the area point me in the right direction of finding a house to accommodate all of us, or maybe 2 condos would be the way to go. I was also looking at Ocean Lakes Campground at their beach houses, maybe renting 2 of those. The only house I have found large enough would end up costing about $6000 for the week and that is a little more than we wanted to spend.

The direction I would point you is north -- Cherry Grove, North Myrtle, etc. There will be many more houses to choose from and it's not quite as overdeveloped as MB. You might consider getting two houses instead of just one -- cost is almost for certain to be much less expensive. My dh's family reunion was there last time, and we had five houses -- gathered for dinner/evening entertainment at a different one each day. Of course, we did have 60+ people!

I think tar heel's advice is good or, also in the name of avoiding the majority of the masses, you could look south of Myrtle Beach in Surfside or Garden City Beach. That's where we always go I've had good experiences dealing with www.gardencityrealty.com. They're very nice and can help you decide what you'd like to rent. I go to MB every summer in August. I agree that you should look to the cities just to the north or south of MB. We have a timeshare in surfside which is the town to the south of MB. It is close enough to enjoy MB, but not as crowded. IMO, the beach is not as crowded.
